Kapuzinerberg — Attraction in Salzburg

In December 2019, my footsteps guided me to the serene embrace of the Kapuzinerberg, nestled in the heart of the city where history whispered through the cobblestone streets and the gentle breath of the past stirred the air.

It was here, amidst the quietude of nature's watch, that the Franziskischlössl stood, a beacon of history perched upon the hill, offering solace and a panoramic vista that stretches the imagination to the horizons of time.

The Kapuzinerberg, named for the Kapuziner monastery that nestles upon its slopes, is a testament to the enduring spirit of contemplation and retreat.

The etymology of "Kapuziner," deriving from the cappuccino-colored robes of the Capuchin monks, speaks to a heritage of simplicity and introspection. This hill, with its verdant paths and hidden stories, served as a canvas upon which the narrative of Salzburg and its guardians was etched. As I ventured along the well-trodden paths that lead to the Franziskischlössl, each step was a journey through time.

The fortress, once a strategic bulwark, now stands as a symbol of peace, its walls echoing tales of epochs past. The ascent, though demanding, unfolded as a rewarding odyssey, revealing at its zenith not just the architectural marvel of the Franziskischlössl, but also a breathtaking view that marries the beauty of nature with the craftsmanship of human history.

Der Kapuzinerberg ist ein Stadtberg in Salzburg - Österreich, der sich östlich der Salzach, also rechtsufrig erhebt. Gegenüber liegen linksufrig Mönchsberg, Rainberg und Festungsberg mit der Festung Hohensalzburg. Die höchste Stelle des Berges liegt auf 636 Meter über Meer, er erhebt sich etwa 200 Meter über das Stadtniveau. Der frühere Name des Kapuzinerbergs war Imberg, was heute vorrangig seinen stadtseitigen Vorberg bezeichnet.

Auf dem Kapuzinerberg befindet sich ein Kloster der Kapuziner, das 1599–1605 aus einem umgebauten Wehrbau des Mittelalters (Trompeterschlösschen) erbaut wurde. Auf dem Weg von der Linzergasse zum Kloster befinden sich 11 Kalvarienbergkapellen und zwei weitere Kapellen, die zwischen 1736 und 1744 erbaut worden waren, im franziskanischen Geist von den Kapuzinern initiiert. Hier befindet sich unweit des Klosters der Wehrturm der Felixpforte, eine Gedenkstätte für Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart und das alte Paschingerschlössl, bekannt als ehemaliges Wohnhaus von Stefan Zweig.

Die Hettwerbastei im Westen sicherte den Raum über dem alten Steintor, drei hochgelegene Wehrplattformen der Große Linzertor Kavalier, der kleine Linzertor Kavalier und die beiden Gnigler Kavaliere im Norden und Nordosten sicherten den Raum über der Linzer Straße und über dem Talraum von Gnigl. Heute sind die Kavaliere wichtige Aussichtsorte. Die langen auf skarpierten Felsen aufgesetzten Wehrmauern mit ihren Wächterhäuschen (Auslug) im Süden und Südosten des Berges sicherten den Berg über der Steingasse. Die Wehrbauten sind zum größeren Teil gut erhalten. Auf der Kuppe des Berges steht das über eine Zugbrücke erreichbare schmucke Franziskischlössl, das heute als kleines Gasthaus genutzt wird. Diese Wehrbauten stammen (außer der kurzen Wehrmauer beim Franziskustor nächst der Linzergasse, die im späten 13. Jahrhundert errichtet wurde) sämtlich aus der Zeit des Fürsterzbischofs Paris Lodron und des Dreißigjährigen...
