Known for Mozart's birthplace and beautiful surroundings, Salzburg is a small town near the boarder of Germany. Located in southeast of Germany, Salzburg actually belongs to Austria. If you are staying in Munich for a few days and have a day to spare, hopping on a train to do a quick round trip to Salzburg would be a great idea. It takes about 2.5 to 3 hours to Salzburg train station from the Munich Central Train Station.
As it's located near the Germany boarder, Salzburg shares a lot of German cultures. When you arrive and look around this small town, you'd notice that a lot of buildings, its atmosphere and the tone seem similar to what you'd see in other small towns in Germany. But you will soon realize this town is beautifully located and very well maintained. The streets are clean, people are nice and the entire town seems to be celebrating the Christmas throughout winter. So this is a must go place if you are in Germany or Austria during the winter time. Also make sure to take an unbrella as it seems like it rains frequently during the winter time.
