Reserved a junior suite for a long weekend via booking.com. We arrived, checked in, got the Peer Gynt suite. The welcome by the receptionist was kind, warm, helpful. The room seemed spotlessly clean.
We left to explore the city, our luggage stayed in the room of course. We got back to the hotel around 9 pm, and were very lucky that my husband spotted something moving on one of the pillows, before we used the bed. Since then, I managed to reach two exterminator companies who were willing to talk at this crazy hour. After providing the picture to them, both company reps were able to confirm, independently from each other that this is a bed bug nymph. We were advised not to take any of our belongings which were in the hotel room home, but to bag them, treat whatever possible with high heat.
The positive side is the hotel offered to book us another accommodation and they did not charge us for the room when we left. We decided to end our trip instead of going to another hotel, because given the possibility that bed bugs could have infested our luggage, I do not find it ethical to take it to a new hotel and expose other people to what we are going through right now.
We had to drive 2,5 hours to get home at night, getting bags to seal our stuff at a gas station because the hotel did not offer any, nor an option find us a laundormat or sauna to heat up our belongings in order to prevent bugs coming with us.
Now comes the waiting game and several weeks of stress to see if we brought a bug home with us, despite all the precautions. The stress this situation caused alone makes it impossible for me to recommend this...

Read moreWe felt very welcome at Hotel Goldgasse. The building is very old and characterful, with rooms that look modern and cool, decorated with splashes of bold colour and an opera theme. There is an inclusive minibar (soft drinks and Nespressos), and a glass of fizz on arrival. I was worried that Brits wouldn’t be popular after Brexit but Goldgasse (and Salzburg generally) made us feel very at home. Beds are huge with 2 x single duvets.||They invite you to not have the chambermaid service any day you please saving you €10 which was good. As other reviewers have said, the manager is a big personality, which is part of the charm. They were very helpful with any questions, taxis etc. They also provide umbrellas which is a nice touch.||The location is the best part. All the main attractions; Mozarts birthplace, the fortress, Dom Quartier, Catacombs etc all nearby, and being nestled in a pedestrian cobbled street was lovely. Breakfast is 7-10am and the moment you sit down someone will simply say ‘Eggs - fried, scrambled or omelette??’ at you. Rest assured you don’t have to have eggs - a platter of ham, bread, cheese, croissants, jams coffee and juice will arrive shortly after.||If you plan to do the Sound of Music or Hallstatt tours (we did both) they leave from Mirabell Palace is about 15-20...
