I want to start my review by saying I live in a town in Europe which has to deal with millions of tourists every year. I know how difficult it is to serve and deal with tourists. However the servers we had at Goldene Kugel was rude, disrespectful, and the worst experience I’ve ever had.
I went to Goldene Kugel with my family on 08.05.2023 for dinner. When we ordered the waiter made us feel rushed and like he didn’t have time for us (even though the restaurant wasn’t full). I tried to order some local schnapps on the menu and the waiter told me “you can’t order a shot with dinner”.
I also asked him if the salad I was ordering had any bread or gluten on it because i was celiac disease and can’t have any bread and flour. He told me there was no bread or flour on the salad.
Half of our group ordered tap water and the other half mineral water. 10 min after being served mineral water, we never received tap water for our table and I waived the waiter down and asked him if we could have tap water. He rudely said “it’s coming, don’t worry about it”. After sometime, the waiter looked at our table and we heard him tell a busboy “I forgot to order water for that table”.
Then when our food arrived, the busboy and waiter brought our food out and they just placed food in front of us in a random order.
It’s when I got my salad that I noticed 3 breadsticks in the salad. I called the waiter over and politely said that I ordered a salad because he told me there was no bread on it. He looked at me like I was stupid and he was unnerve that I called him over again. I explained that it was allergic to gluten and he touched the bread sticks with his hands and said “just removed it”.
I explained to him that’s not how gluten allergies work and if he could remake it. The look on his face was like I was being ridiculous and he quickly grabbed the salad and walked away.
While the food was good, we were all appalled by the horrible service and rudeness of our waiter for just trying to order food.
I’m a really easy customer to deal with and always understand that sometimes mistakes get made and sometimes waiters are busy. I only ever leave 5 star reviews, but this service was next level bad and I hope that the owners of the company read this as improvements need to be made with...

The owner of the restaurant obviously likes cheap afghani immigrant labour because all the waiting staff we saw there were and/or resembled such! All were clearly lacking basic waitressing skills and hygiene! Crockery and cutlery were constantly being dropped, sometimes on patrons, many glasses and plates were broken while we were there! What was even worse is that we saw many of these afghani waiters sneezing when carrying plates of food to patrons' tables, inevitably contaminating them and transferring whatever infections they had to the patrons! Both my wife and I came down the very next day after eating at this place with the worst case of flu we ever had. It has been nearly a week now, and our lungs are still so congested we can hardly breathe, and every bone in our body is so sore, we can hardly move! Our waiter was rude and agressive, demanding that we choose our drink and food, barely 5 seconds after we sat down at the table! Disgusting joint, should be reported to the health department and probably even to the immigration authorities, although these days patrons fight a loosing battle as European governments just don't care! Read moreWe visited this restaurant at 9:00 PM on August 3, 2025. Unfortunately, our experience was highly disappointing due to the conduct of one of the staff members, a waiter who appeared to be of Middle Eastern descent.
From the moment we entered, his attitude was unwelcoming and unprofessional. When we placed our order, his language was noticeably impolite and lacking basic courtesy. Most concerningly, when it came time to pay, he took it upon himself to add a tip without our approval.
Our bill for six beers came to €31, yet he included an €8 tip on his own initiative. This was done without any explanation or prior discussion, which we found to be completely unacceptable. Given the poor level of service, this behavior came across as dishonest and disrespectful.
This kind of conduct is unacceptable in any professional setting, and frankly, this establishment does not deserve customers until it addresses such serious issues.
P.S. To ensure a consistent and respectful level of service, we strongly recommend that the management consider deploying mystery shoppers. It may be the only way to truly understand how some staff members are treating customers when they think no one...
