Absolutely horrible place. We walked in as a large group during lunch just to check if maybe they had room. I asked the lady very nicely if she had room and she proceeded to scream “no” in my face about 6 times. I said that’s okay thank you. The rest of our group decided to go somewhere else for food while us 3 girls who are coeliac wanted to stay to try the gluten free schnitzel. I turned back to her and said could she possibly seat 3, this lady then proceeded to start screaming at me saying “are they coming back” I repeatedly told her no they aren’t we just want to eat here because of our allergy. She said 3 was fine but for 5 minutes was yelling at us saying “they can’t come back” I continued to tell her they aren’t but she just didn’t get the picture. She eventually said “you 3 and only you 3 go upstairs”. We went upstairs and the whole restaurant was empty except for one couple. Meaning we could have had our whole group here and there were more than enough staff members. After standing there for a bit the lady upstairs finally acknowledged us and sat us in the back corner. We ordered 2 schnitzels to share considering they were $65 AUD each which is an insane price for the small portion we were given. The crumbing was horrible and soggy and again the waitress was so rude to us and slammed the plates down. I was completely disgusted by the service. We ate as quick as we could and left. The atmosphere was horrific and on edge and the service was the worst service I have experienced in my life. If I could give this place a 0 I would. I will be adding this into the “Find me GF” to ensure no one comes here. No one deserves to be treated the way both waiters treated us. By the way we are Australian and were very respectful to this nasty waitress who just seemed to have it out...

DO NOT COME HERE FOR A POSSIBLY TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE WITH THE WAITERS. I was really excited to try this place… but a terrible experience with the waiter ruined the entire experience. If you are a foreigner I wouldn’t recommend going here, they seem to hate Americans. My husband and I have both never experience something like this, and we both left very upset.

After being seated and waiting for ten minutes for any service, I politely raised my hand to ask the waiter if we could order. He interrupted me BEFORE I could finish asking and said “one moment” in the most condescending way without even looking at me and walked on, serving everyone around us first, even ppl who had been seated after us. After 15 more minutes, he came by and took our order. He asked us what to drink and we said nothing because we both don’t drink alcohol and didn’t want water. He then said very rudely “ this is a restaurant you have to get a drink.” When we asked for tap water, he said we’d pay for that too.

I get you have to pay for water in Europe, but what the heck is that kind of rude response if you really don’t want to order something to drink? Don’t we have a choice?

He then slammed the menus after we ordered, took them from us, and threw them on the front kiosk when walking off.

To be fair, the food was pretty good, nothing crazy or worth the price. But for me, when the waiter is terrible, it ruins everything, and it was bad enough to...

I had the worst experience ever at Wirtshaus Elefant, and it left me extremely disappointed. I went there specifically to try the Salzburger Nockerl, and what followed was utterly unacceptable.

First, they didn’t give me a table even though there were clearly free ones. After waiting for a while, I was finally seated. I asked the woman serving me if they had Salzburger Nockerl, and she flat-out lied to my face, saying they don’t serve it. However, just next to me, an older couple was being served exactly that dish!

Feeling uncomfortable but still willing to try something else, I decided to check the menu. Then, to my shock, the same woman came over and told me I needed to free up the table because another couple had just arrived. When I pointed out she had initially told me the table was available for two hours, she brushed it off and insisted I leave.

This was my first-ever experience being treated so poorly at a restaurant, and it left a really bad impression. From being lied to about the menu to being rudely asked to leave the table, I felt completely disrespected. I can’t believe this is the level of service they offer, especially for a place with such a reputation.

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Unprofessional staff, lack of basic courtesy, and outright dishonesty ruined my...

The Salzburg Nockerl served here was absolutely disgusting; the egg whites seemed to have not been cooked properly, resulting in a weird foamy texture and taste (tasted simply like egg whites someone on a diet would eat with no sweetness/vanilla flavour), while the berry base was simply too sour. The fact that this cost set me back 14.90 euros made it that much worse. My girlfriend and I had one mouthful each before deciding to call on the waiter to check if this was what we should be expecting. The waiter tried it only to shrug and say it was indeed meant to taste this way. Given that this was my first time trying this, I had no clue what to expect and had to accept that for an answer. Ultimately, we left only after that mouthful after establishing that we couldn't take any more of/from them. So either this delicacy actually tastes the way it did, which I obviously do not believe so given my Austrian friend's rave review of this dish and the obvious differences I observed between their dish and the ones I have seen online, or they are just trying to wriggle their way out of serving crappy/undercooked dishes at an exorbitant price.

Nestled in Salzburg's heart, this charming eatery radiates warmth with its cozy ambiance and traditional Austrian fare. The aroma of schnitzels and strudels fills the air, inviting patrons to savor an authentic culinary experience. The staff's impeccable service, coupled with their fluency in English, enhances the welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step in, you're enveloped in a homey embrace. The menu boasts Austrian classics, each dish a symphony of flavors crafted with care. It's not just a meal; it's a journey through the region's culinary heritage. A must-visit for those seeking a taste of Austria amid Salzburg's scenic charm. Early sitting is often available without a reservation but better book a table if you wish to dine after 19.30

Place is really nice on the inside, food was OK, nothing great... Service was not really good... We missed forks and knives, my drink was not was I asked, my brothers coca cola was tasting like coming from a three liter coca cola bottle, there was a mistake on one of our orders and what bothers me the most, as tourist I had no idea what the Salzburg nockerl was, we just wanted to try because it's a famous thing in Salzburg... it was listed under desserts so we imagined it was not so big. For three persons we asked two... Enough said, that one was more than enough for the three of us. I would've appreciated if the waiter said something and warned us when we made the mistake of ordering two.
