Emperor Franz I (Franz I. von Österreich) was a significant historical figure and the founding ruler of the Austrian Empire. Born in 1768, he became Emperor of Austria in 1804 after the dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire. This is a large scale monument and the works of Italian sculptor Pompeo Marchesi in 1846. Here you find Francis II, the last Holy Roman Emperor whose reign lasted from 1792 to 1806, standing in robe with sceptre in his left hand. His right hand is pointing to the right as if he is addressing a crowd in that direction.
The monument is standing upon a pedestal covered with bas reliefs. There are also four different bronze figures depicting moral virtues of religion, peace, justice and strength that surround the Kaiser Franz statue.
