Illy Caffè — Restaurant in Vienna

The worst customer service I’ve ever had!!! Take it from someone who’s worked in hospitality and don’t waste your time! You’ll end up feeling very stressed and uncomfortable. As soon as we sat outside the older waiter approached us with the most horrible attitude and contempt. We still ordered food/tap water and he shouted ‘only bottled water’. We were startled by this and remained quite. A younger waiter then arrived with two bottled waters and (lo and behold) a jar full of tap water!! We said we wanted tap not bottled but he refused to swap it. That was enough for us to walk away since it was full of people and the waiters couldn’t care less for us. The older waiter then ran after us and shouted at us by telling us to come back. 🤦‍♀️ We firmly explained why not and left. Are tourists supposed to put up with this racist behavior in Viena?! Where I come from waiters treat you with respect. God knows how much we’d pay for this horrible service in the end or having to waste time talking to the manager who clearly doesn’t care for its customers by hiring bullies for over a year now (there are many old complaints here...

We visited this place while walking around Vienna and unfortunately had a very unpleasant experience with the service. An older waiter, who seemed visibly tired and disinterested, was the one who served us. He didn’t greet us, simply dropped the menus on the table without a word, and gave off the impression that he would rather not be there at all.

He brought us our drinks without any interaction or effort to make us feel welcome. What made the experience even worse was the pressure he put on us regarding tipping. When it was time to pay, he made it quite obvious — more than once — that he was expecting a tip, despite the fact that the service was minimal and quite unwelcoming. I had to repeat multiple times that I didn’t want to leave a tip, simply because there was no reason to — no hospitality, no friendliness, just cold, distant service with a frown.

I understand that working in hospitality for many years can be exhausting, but it’s not an excuse for treating guests with disdain. We came for a relaxing moment, not to feel like an inconvenience. Would not recommend this place based on...

Our dining experience at this restaurant was overall delightful, with a fantastic ambiance and delicious food and drinks. The atmosphere contributed significantly to the positive impression, creating a pleasant environment for our meal.

However, it's worth noting a minor inconvenience regarding the pricing policy. Although menu prices were listed, an additional 10-20% service charge was applied, which was not explicitly mentioned. While this did not drastically impact our overall satisfaction, transparent communication about such charges would have been appreciated.

Another aspect that slightly detracted from our experience was the initial seating arrangement. After selecting a table upon entering, we were relocated twice, which was a bit inconvenient. We understand the need to accommodate other guests, but being moved multiple times could be improved upon to enhance the overall customer experience.
