We needed a spot to meet up with family as we are traveling in the country. A local friend told us to come here. I looked at the reviews and saw the great ones and the not so great ones. As we really needed a spot fast, we made a reservation. Yep, we were actually able to make a reservation, which I’ve not been able to at a few islands.
Communication has been great and they guided us in via radio and at the dock were 3 others waiting to take our lines. Getting in was smooth and easy. Didn’t need to use facilities other than laundry and you buy tokens for that at the office.
Leaving, I was worried about the wind drifting us into the big fancy yachts behind us but Peter, with a pat on the shoulder, told me he will guide us out himself, just relax and he’s got it. I had no reason to doubt him. We were out of the slip in a wink and well underway around the mega yachts.
It’s been a great experience with Peter, the dock hands, and office staff. We will definitely come back when we come through on our way south.
There is a Solomon’s Fresh Market across the street which is quite comparable to the one in Dinner Key, Miami, Florida, USA. Banks, pharmacy, automotive parts shop, liquor store, a glorious shop that hand prints the fabric, general goods and a few more in that plaza. Very convenient, as a cruiser. Other shops are an easy walk away, too.
We all have bad days, I’m sorry some had to experience that here. I’m glad we came in anyway as it’s been easy going the...
Read moreAnyone who docks here deserves what they get. I docked at the fuel dock to refuel before going to my assigned slip. The dockmaster had all but refused to allow that (saying I could carry the fuel to my boat in jerry cans) until I insisted.
I asked to see the slip so that I could be sure my boat would be able to maneuver into it (no bow thrusters, she barely moves in reverse, and the bow goes straight downwind at low speed.) The dockmaster had no concern for the safety of my boat. He refused, saying, "Don't worry about it."
As I was saying that it really would be necessary, he also said to take the fenders off because "they will make it hard to fit in, and a wooden dock won't damage a boat." When I protested, he literally said, "I'm a certified captain and I have a big d@ck." I kid you not.
I was incredulous. But when I asked if he would pay for any damage from the wooden dock scraping my boat, he said "That's it! Go somewhere else!" He took the words right out of my mouth.
Maybe he's on medication? Or he has issues to work out? I don't know, but I was never so happy to pull away from a marina. If you decide to dock...
Read moreYou. Must. Call. There is no other option to make a reservation. Nothing online. Call. Otherwise, they aren't luxurious, but they are clean. Convenient to the docks. Good staff. SUPER accommodating to those with All Star Liveaboards....cannot speak to those that are not staying as a waypoint for that trip but I would assume it's good. Literally attached to Latitudes Restaurant - a very nice restaurant in the area. Fantastically located across from a Starbucks, a bank, multiple boutiques, and a grocery store. Oh. And the Chinese place down the road (and within walking distance) is very, very good - or at least it was before COVID hit. Next time I'm there, I'll be going back....and to the...
