Disappointing Experience with Hunter Charters Our recent excursion with Hunter Charters on their 46' Ocean Yacht left much to be desired, to say the least. The advertised promise of an enjoyable day of fishing, snorkeling, or beaching around Rose Island turned out to be far from reality. Right from the start, our experience was marred by extremely rough waters, making it nearly impossible to enjoy any activity on the boat. The motion sickness was so severe that two members of our group ended up vomiting, and everyone else felt nauseous. Despite our discomfort, communication with the guide was minimal at best. We weren't given any guidance on fishing or any explanation of what to expect during the trip. Moreover, our attempts to engage with the guide about fishing were met with unwelcoming responses. When one of our group tried to prevent a fishing pole from falling over, they were rudely instructed not to touch the fishing gear. Throughout the journey, we felt like unwanted guests on our own excursion. We were ordered to remove our shoes and stay out of the way without any explanation or safety instructions provided. The cabin area, which was supposed to be a place for relaxation, was far from inviting. It was outdated and uncomfortable, with a shabby couch covered in a blanket. Our 10-year-old daughter was scolded for placing her backpack on a cooler, which was deemed unacceptable by the guide. This lack of hospitality and unwelcoming atmosphere only added to our disappointment. Furthermore, the description of the excursion provided the impression that there would be options for activities and that we would have some say in what we wanted to do. However, this was far from the truth. We were simply told that we were deep-sea fishing and that there would be no stops. It felt as though we were merely financing the crew's fishing trip, with little consideration for our preferences or comfort. In the end, unable to endure the rough conditions any longer and frustrated by the lack of flexibility, we requested to return to the dock. Overall, our experience with Hunter Charters fell far short of our expectations, and we would not recommend their services to others seeking an enjoyable...
Read moreUnfriendly, unprofessional and inexperienced charter. Inagua Salt and "Captain J" showed up 15 minutes late with one fishing guide (cannot remember his name) and a young child on board. We chartered the boat thru our hotel concierge for a half day of fishing with our family of four. With 7 of us on board it was quite cramped and you could not go below deck because there was no a/c inside like advertised. The crew was extremely unfriendly only speaking to one another and the child, never addressing any of us at all making for a very long, not fun day. Several times the child, no more than 10 years old drove our boat from place to place. Overall we caught about 6 super small fish (no bigger than my foot). Trying deep sea and fishing the reef both, we never saw one descent fish. AND Captain J slept below deck while we fished! Never offered us a water, never had anything to say about fishing in the area and never offered any words about our total failure of a fishing trip. What a joke and what a TOTAL waste of time and money! To the tune of $1200 to be exact. $1000 for a 4 hour charter with a $200 tip that Captain J (who isn't much of a captain at all) didn't thank my husband for. He mumble something...
Read moreI can’t be more pleased with the experience we had with Hunter Charters, and the crew of the Lady Jenny, Captain PJ and Jake. We chartered Hunter Charters and the Lady Jenny for an intimate memorial to spread my in-laws’ ashes at sea as they wanted. The crew was respectful and made the day very special.
We concluded our charter with some fishing and just wanted to fish for whatever was biting. Within minutes of getting to the first spot, we were all reeling in fish. The crew took care of everything and made it fun and easy for our kids to catch fish. We even caught, and released, a shark, which was a lot of fun and the crew made it safe for us and made sure the shark was released unharmed. Their knowledge of the area, the fish, and instruction for the kids should how much they love what they do.
I would absolutely recommend Hunter Charters, the Lady Jenny, Captain PJ and Jake for a charter when you are in the Bahamas. They picked us up right near the Atlantis, were friendly and nice, and ran a clean...
