Completely accessible to all, this gallery excels at creating a vibe that isn't stuffy, you don't need to have a fine art degree to appreciate or enjoy it. Ask a lot of questions - don't be shy. And don't miss the downstairs. Fun theme exhibitions and worth following their FB page or website for openings, events and new exhibitions. There is something here almost anyone can afford from small art prints and humourous cards to tiny felt sculptures or handcrafted jewellery. The ever popular Pre-Shrunk show provides access to buy very high quality original art miniature paintings. I frequently go to this gallery as it always has something of a nugget to surprise me. It features local artists that are curious and off beaten path yet very much capture the spirit of Nova Scotia and especially Halifax. There’s this to tongue-in-cheek about the art they feature, and the levity is just the ticket. There’s wry humor in the works, or gentle smile. They appear to specialize in small format, more affordable pieces. The gallery resists featuring(bless them!) many an imitation of Tom Thompson which plague so many Canadian galleries… there’s plenty of pieces to see for those nooks and crannies of your home that need a bit of a smile to hide.
