Short version: Show takes less-than 10 minutes to tour and it uses fake plastic flowers.
Long version:
I don't like giving negative reviews but after my visit to the floral showhouse to see the orchid display I was left deeply disappointed.
I drove an hour to see this display. An hour. It took me longer to park the car and walk to the entrance than it did to walk through all the available greenhouses and see the displays. Only two were open and one and the entrance were dedicated to the orchid show. You can see the whole Showhouse in less-than 10 minutes even while stopping to admire individual flowers.
The orchids and other flowers on display were arranged in a very attractive manner, but the vast majority of orchids were varieties you see in every grocery store in Ontario. I only saw maybe three individual plants that were new and interesting. The rest are varieties of Phalaenopsis I see every single time I go to the grocery store five minutes from my house. Adding to the disappointment was the fact that some of the most impressive components of the show were fake plastic flowers. Never in my life have I seen a greenhouse use fake plastic flowers as part of a display for paying customers. All wreaths on the walls and all orchids hanging from the ceiling were all fake which was shocking and unexpected, especially as many species of orchids are epiphytes meaning they grow off the surface of another plants, such as a tree, which makes them the perfect species to hang off of blocks of wood, walls and ceiling displays.
I didn't drive an hour and pay $20 for parking to walk around for ten minutes and see an arrangement of grocery store orchids and fake plastic flowers. As attractive a display it was, it left me disappointed and upset that I had wasted money, gas and time to see this. The only thing that saved the trip from being a complete waste of my time was the fact that the falls was within...
Read moreFor tropical plant and flower lovers, this show house is a dream! We saw the orchid display and the orchids were phenomenal, just perfect specimens of beauty, different colours, sizes, and in all kinds of artful shapes. The orchids were nestled in between gorgeous cyclamen, ranunculus, pansies, and other brightly coloured flowers and greenery. We also loved the collection of tropical plants and cacti, so many varieties! I could see how much effort must go into caring for all the individual plants, they were all really in great condition. It was lovely to see.
Recommend leaving your stroller and any heavy jackets or bulky backpacks in your vehicle. It's very warm indoors and pathways in the greenhouses are narrow (would not be ideal at a busy time). There were only a handful of other families there at 3:30pm on a Saturday afternoon in March, so we enjoyed everything thoroughly and were done in under an hour.
We walked through the outdoor "miniature village" which was kind of a disappointment. It has several small buildings like houses, shops, etc., (about the size of doghouse each) spread around a little park area with a pond, bridge, and walkways. It might be better when spring and summer gardens bloom, but kind of dreary in March.
The gift shop has a nice selection of cute home decor, cards, jewelry, etc., and was not too overpriced. Found some...
Read moreWe had a horrible experience. We came from Toronto on July 20 for a picnic with my elderly disabled mother in law. We wanted to have a picnic and wander around the flowers. We paid for our parking and set up the blankets. The show house was closed. We should have checked, i know. This one is on us. However, the area with the washrooms was also closed!!! How on earth you charge for the parking and there are no washrooms!? I did say that that my mother in law is disabled, has difficulties walking and in constant pain? So we were desperate to find a washroom and there are none! We were ready to do in behind the bushes, but we could not. My mother in law is a very classy lady, she would burn from shame to go like that. We asked other people and everyone said that the closest washroom is 10 minutes away walking. We saw a power station and we were trying to get there. Well, needless to say we didn't make it... You charge people parking and close the washrooms. Because what, you don't want it to get dirty? Then close the area completely! Shame on you! You ruined our experience. I will write to city of Niagara as well. You have no respect for the people. I'm so hurt, frustrated and i just can't believe that things like...
