My girlfriend’s soon to be brother in law booked a dinner reservation for his fiancés birthday. We were a party of 4 and ordered the ceviche, Brussels sprouts, mac & cheese and the 28oz porterhouse along with two glasses of red wine.
Upon arrival it was a nice restaraunt we were greeted by a friendly host acknowledging the special occasion and even providing us with a great view of the falls. The place was relatively quiet for a Friday evening but as we had booked it for later in the night it was expected. The waitress was kind as she tried to assist where possible and followed up early on prior to us placing our order.
Ceviche: this was a very questionable dish as it was combined solely of fish (I believe it’s the chefs creation). The dish itself was only made of one type of fish and a dash of lime. I’m sure it’s a good quality fish but not even some cheap shrimp, scallop or anything else was extremely off putting. Not sure what the chef was thinking here. Not to mention ceviche uses the lime as the main ingredient to cook the raw fish yet there was no taste of lime. Instead we got a mouth full of ginger juice and 2 dried limes. We’ve ordered ceviche from other restaurants both higher end and lower and this was definitely the worst one we’ve ever had.
Crispy Brusselsprouts: the brussel sprouts weren’t crispy but the dish was alright in terms of taste. I expected much better from a steakhouse considering it’s more expensive than Jacob’s and Harbour 60.
Mac and cheese: this was not bad probably the better of the 3 so far. Flavour was good and had a nice crisp at the top.
Large porterhouse 28oz (medium rare) : I’ve attached two photos for reference. First steak we received it was basically medium / well done. I’m not sure if the fire was uneven or something happened but this was unexpected considering it costs $300. We sent the steak back and the waitress apologized and said the manager “may” come by. I thought that was kind of strange that they “may” come by. Considering it wasn’t busy at all it really caught all of us off guard. After 15 minutes or so the new steak was sent out and we all agreed it was substantially better as it was actually medium rare (closer to medium but we’ll let it slide). Either way i find it ridiculous that you have the audacity to charge almost double the price for steak compared to other steakhouses then try and serve an overcooked steak. (FYI we’ve never sent any food back no matter how bad so this was).
Wine: two different glasses of red we ordered (don’t remember the name) but you could tell it was freshly uncorked . Nothing to write home about but yeah it’s wine.
At the end of the meal i was very underwhelmed and disappointed with this meal. I was shocked there wasn’t a dessert or even a complimentary glass of wine for the birthday girl. Considering the price point and the screw up on the steak. What’s worse is the manager was no where in sight even after we complained about them sending a 300$ over cooked steak. Embarrassing that a manager would leave the responsibility to the waitress to handle all customer relations. Considering the price point at what they were charging I don’t understand how they can expect to build clientele. The service compared to Jacobs was night and day, I don’t care if STK is not Michelin star rated or named but if you have the audacity to charge the prices if not more you deserve to get put on full blast. The ambience wasn’t my taste for a steakhouse but that’s fine to each their own. But to name yourself STK aka (Steak) and serve a steak that’s worse then what a new grad at culinary school could make is embarrassing.
Honest opinion, save your money and go to the Keg or even Burger King on Clifton hills. Our meal ended up being around 500$~ by no means expensive but definitely not cheap for what you’re getting. I get that there’s higher margins because of the cost of rent and you’re paying for the ambience of the falls but bottom line how can you call yourself a steakhouse but screw up a steak.

Read moreMy wife and I had recently been to STK in Toronto and we really enjoyed our experience there. So for Valentine’s Day we wanted to go to the Niagara location. Unfortunately, my wife and I had probably the worst experience at this location. First off, we got there for our reservation at 9:45 but had to wait 15-20 minutes, but we didn’t let that deter us. Not too sure what the point of a reservation is. I will say the atmosphere and ambience was great, and we were seated at a nice booth with a decent view of the falls. We ordered our drinks and our appetizer, but we noticed we had not received the complimentary bread that comes to the table. We asked our server and she was shocked to find out too that we hadn’t received it. A few minutes later she comes with the bread, but to our disappointment the bread was stale. Regardless, this was not the worst of it. Everything was going well…. Until it was time to pay.
The server first came with our bill and charged us for 3 beers instead of the 2. We informed her and she quickly realized, apologized, and corrected the bill. Then she came back with the new bill. Now she had charged us for 2 calamari instead of 1, and we definitely only had one appetizer. She again realized, apologized, and went to correct the bill. The third time, she comes back and finally the bill was correct. I paid with my visa and she printed out a receipt, but proceeded to tell us that my visa was declined and did not work. She did not hand us any receipt that stated our payment was declined. She asked us for another method of payment. I took my wife’s card to pay, and surprisingly it went through. As the server was about to leave, I saw on my phone I had received a notification from my bank that my payment had gone through. My wife had the same notification. We were charged twice. I showed this to our server and she told us she needed to grab the manager to issue a refund to one of our visa’s. The manager came over and told us she would look into it. I’m not sure what there is to look into if we have confirmation from our banks that both payments went through, but whatever, we let her investigate. My wife and I were stuck waiting there for around 20-30 minutes for them to “look into it”. The manager returned and told us they were on hold with the credit card people but she told us she could just give us the refund since it was taking too long. So you mean to tell us, you could have issued us the refund right away but instead you left for 20 minutes to call some credit card team? Then the manager proceeded to explain to us how a credit card refund works… my wife works at the bank and although we look young, we are not children. Not to mention, even after all this absurdity, we were not even offered ANY sort of compensation for the inconvenience they caused.
I genuinely and strongly can say that we were almost scammed at this location. Whenever I have experienced a double payment issue, I have always been issued a refund right away. This was the most ridiculous thing I have ever experienced. The server consistently charging us more than what we ordered???? More than what our original bill is? STK, whoever is in charge there, you need to look into your staff and make sure your workers aren’t trying to steal from guests. And to whoever visits this location, check your receipts and double check your bills. I will not be returning here and will advise anyone against coming to this location. Go...
Read morePerhaps my expectations were too high, but when you are charging $95 for a steak I feel they should be. My boyfriend and I went for New Year’s Eve and chose the prix fix menu.
Im going to break this down in sections:
Food: The starter salad was bland, both the blue cheese and Cesar. There was no flavor to the Cesar dressing at all. Not enough garlic, anchovy etc that you would normally expect from a classic Cesar salad.
We both got the 10 oz filet. It was cooked to our satisfaction in regards to “doneness” and I do believe the quality was there, however, where they fell short was the seasoning. Again, it was bland. Not enough salt/seasoning, no fresh black pepper offered. Again, this wouldn’t be such a big deal if they weren’t charging premium dollar as this is something you would expect of a premium restaurant is for your server to come around with black pepper for your steak or to at least even have it available at the table. I did ask for some pepper and our server brought us an empty pepper shaker.
The blue cheese butter is also very much buttery and not much blue cheese flavor. The server had explained this to me as a “sauce” that you could essentially pour onto the steak however it was very much a butter.
The shrimp cocktail was just “ok”. I found the shrimp a bit chewy to be honest. Temperature, seasoning, and presentation were all good.
Truffle fries were overdone and a bit dry, but they were not bad by any means. I have definitely had better from less prestigious establishments.
Service: our server was lovely, very sweet, although there were a few things that could use some improvement. Rather than removing the wine glasses from the table after we have had a cocktail, asking the customer if they will be having wine with dinner would be preferred. She also seemed to forget that we got dessert with our dinner option and I had to remind her. It was supposed to be cheesecake and I was given a carrot cake with cream cheesecake frosting perhaps? Definitely not a cheesecake though. Also - we did not even have steak knives at our table, and the server delivered my steak before I was finished my salad. These are things that should not be overlooked at a premium steakhouse. Wait staff need to be keeping an eye on these things prior to bringing out entrees. We made it very clear we were not in any rush and were hoping to enjoy the fireworks , hence the late dinner reservation.
The atmosphere was a tough one as it depends who you are going with and what you are celebrating. If you’re going with a bunch of your guy/girlfriends then yes - it is a vibe. If you are going for a romantic dinner with your spouse - absolutely not. The music is loud, and very much party vibes. It was hard to have a conversation or even hear your server for that matter, as you were constantly competing with the volume of the music. Views were stunning of course overlooking the falls.
All in all I rate this restaurant a 3/5. I am sad to say that I would not recommend this place as a good steak house overall. If you are choosing a restaurant solely on the atmosphere and you want a party vibe / supper club type atmosphere than you will enjoy it. The Keg is far better in my opinion in regards to food and service though, and a far better bang for your buck. This place is overpriced for what you are getting in return. If you are going to charge premium prices then you need to deliver premium results in every aspect of the...
