OBASA Suites - Regina — Attraction in Regina

We had a generally fair stay at Obasa Suites, although there were several aspects of the accommodation that fell short of expectations. The location is excellent—central and convenient. However, we found the condition and functionality of the appliances and furnishings below par given the price point. The dishwasher is very outdated, with the top shelf failing to clean dishes properly. As a result, we had to wash dishes manually, which became tedious, particularly given the limited supply of utensils (only four of each type). One of our main concerns was the washing machine. The top-loading model appears to be quite old and unfortunately damaged some of our clothing. While the dryer worked adequately, the lint filter was broken, so we had to improvise with a cloth to prevent further dust from circulating throughout the apartment. It appeared that a lot of fine dust circulated through the HVAC system into the apartment and there was a persistent, daily coat of dust to be cleaned. Ventilation was also a significant issue. Despite raising this early on, it remained unresolved. There is only one small window that opens, and the air vents or filters appear not to have been cleaned in quite some time or there is an issue with them. This led to noticeable dust buildup and required cleaning multiple times per day to maintain a tolerable living environment. The lack of fresh air also made the space feel quite closed-in. Additionally, the range hood above the stove was ineffective—it simply recirculated smoke and cooking odors throughout the apartment, contributing to a persistent and unpleasant smell of food in the unit. We also noted that there was no electric kettle provided, which meant boiling water on the coil stove.

The furnishings, particularly the couch and some other pieces, are dated and uncomfortable.

On a more positive note, the linens, towels, and pillows were clean and appreciated. The exercise room is a useful amenity, but the equipment is outdated. Several machines were partly non-functional—particularly the lighter weight settings—and the cables often stuck, likely due to age and insufficient maintenance. Communication with management could also be improved.

After Niel’s departure, we experienced a breakdown in service. Despite having arranged for rent to be automatically debited from our credit card, we received a curt message claiming we were in arrears. Our response clarifying the arrangement received no reply.

The highlights of our stay were the friendly and helpful staff, particularly Finn and Carol, who consistently went out of their way to assist us. In sum, while the location and staff were positives, the condition of the unit and the service did not align with the premium pricing. I spend a large portion of my life on the road working in new provinces and towns. Normally I spend summers in my RV and winters in conventional hotels or inns. I was informed that certain towns/cities offer suites for short term rent so I did some searching and found Obasa Suites. After some further investigation I found Obasa to offer a well suited variety of options for accommodations and reached out to them. I can honestly say it was a pleasure dealing with them from day 1.The company representatives were open and honest about every question I asked and seemed quite knowledgeable. Opted to try a full house rental and found check in to be comfortable and easy. With my schedule things change day to day and extending my stay was easy. The accommodations were new and clean. Plenty of supplies supplied for appliances, utensils and cookware. Everything was operational. There wasn't one negative thing I can think of in my 3.5 week stay. I stayed at this apartment for one year and Half while completing a work assignment in Regina. The apartment is conveniently located near a plaza with a fantastic restaurant. The apartment was spotless upon arrival, with comfortable furniture and a fully equipped kitchen. The layout was spacious, and the large windows provided plenty of natural light. The building was well-maintained.The property management was incredibly responsive and friendly, always quick to address any minor issues that arose. They made the renting process smooth and hassle-free. The neighbourhood was quiet and safe, with a friendly community atmosphere. There were plenty of parks and green spaces, perfect for evening walks. Overall, my experience at this apartment was fantastic. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and convenient place to stay in this city. I would give this apartment a solid 5 out...
