This mall is a cultural staple of the district. For less fanciful language, it's just great. As you walk in, you'll regard chinese culture as immensely enlightening and full of knowledge and ideas we could learn from, without trampling over them and making them seem impractical. The highlight of the area is the immense number of objects and ideas rooted in ancient practices and ideas about mother earth.
At first I found this area of the city intimidating. I didn't know what to expect, but once I dove I to the consequences of our society without the Chinese influence, and what it would be like if they were not there, I realized how important it was for me to acknowledge and learn what it meant to live in this beautiful part of the city. I told my husband I wanted to take him to our Chinatown in the GTA. (We went to the Vancouver one and it was atrocious) so I was highly confident this one would blow him away.
We went....elevators....broken....human feces....in the parking stairs.....gun shot wounds....in the door glasses...
I felt terrible and highly embarrassed.
It's not the same it used to be. It was lit back in the days. More maintenance and vibrant colors and stores. Now it's just a run...
