Came with great expectation for the Hemma's Burnt cheesecake. Some said it's World No.1. Have been wanting to try but give up trying due to the long queue.
Today I tried my luck and visited Hemma at 11am. Managed to get a counter table for 3 without waiting, yay!
I ordered Masala Chai Latte $68 Hand drip coffee: Kenyan water washed beans $58 Peach Green Tea $48 Greek Yoghurt Breakfast Bowl $88 Hemma Breakfast $158 Vanilla Burnt Cheesecake $68 Lemon Burnt Cheesecake $68
I am sitting at the counter which is located at the entrance of the cafe. I love the high ceiling and the simple white and tasteful decoration. From the counter seat, I can see the staffs are taking their time to prepare each order carefully.
They only serve breakfast menu till 1130 and take in order for lunch from 1145. I must say that they don't have an extensive menu, each order take a while to arrive at our table. I was losing a bit of patience and had to check with the waiter on my order.
When the food arrived, I can tell that the chef made the food with lots of heart and care. Love the Hemma Breakfast, scrambled egg is so moist, buttery and well seasoned, it comes with 2 sausages, side salad and baked layered potatoes. Very yummy. My yoghurt bowl took the longest to arrive. But it is so gorgeous and it is of perfect size. The homemade granola is so crispy and flavorful, love the whole combination! Masala Chai Latte is made fresh when I ordered. It's one of the best Masala chai I had. The burnt cheesecakes, oh the burn cheesecakes are to die for. A must try! The sweetness, texture and taste are on point. Both lemon and vanilla are beautiful! Overall, I totally enjoyed my experience at Hemma. A place where you should visit with good friends for catch-up (there is a minimum spending of drink per person and each table is given 1.5hours only), or a place for your hide out with...
Read moreFirst off, we only waited for 30mins under the 33 degree C scorching Sun to get in. We sit near a bar table, yet the lady tell us to go to the 2nd floor. Then, there’s no seat. I suppose we then stayed in the bar table, and suddenly there is lol.
One thing to remind you, the minimum order per person is a cake (average $65hkd small piece, and a drink ard $60hkd). If not you will be forced to leave. Rum Cheesecake I tried is so so, no surprise, obviously they really bake it by themselves. Coffee contrastingly is the best, nice aroma and not bitter.
One thing, they should improve their services, you are going to order yourself automatically, get your utensils and water yourself from the counter even though you paid this much for service. There is only one waiter lmao. Moreover, the coffee comes much later than the cake. It is supposed that in kissa culture, you are tasting the cake WITH the coffee together, such that the sweetness of the cake can enact a synergistic effect with the coffee. But they cannot even tend to this simple underlying principle.
In my opinion, it’s a one-time experience, no...
Read moreHemma is famous for its basque burnt cheesecake, called as the world’s best cheesecake for so long in HK. They are specialised in making cheesecake for years, started in instagram online shop. Their dedication to baking a cheesecake is amazing. The overall texture is ultimately smooth and creamy with a runny centre. It resembles cream cheese sauce. The rum and raisin tastes good even after baking it. The rum is still quite strong but not over powering. Lemon is a summer seasonal flavour, with a thick biscuit crust and lemon curd on top. The contrast of the crunchy base and the smooth cream cheese interior is perfect but it gets too rich and a bit too buttery(?). The tangy curd can somehow offset the butteriness. Hemma really does an excellent job in making cheesecake, but you really need to queue early even on weekdays to get a seat, and there’s a minimal charge of a drink. Basically you will order a cake and a drink per person, but the coffee they serve is just...
