The Old Stanley Police Station (Chinese: 舊赤柱警署) was a police station constructed in 1859 in Stanley, Hong Kong Island. It is now the oldest remaining police station building in Hong Kong, and was declared a monument on 15 January 1984. The British Army, during the early years of the colonial era, used the station from time to time in conjunction with the police because of its strategic position as the most southerly outpost on Hong Kong Island. During the Japanese Occupation, the Japanese Gendarmerie used the police station as a local headquarters and a mortuary was built onto the building. After the war, the building reverted to its original use and served as a police station until 1974. Since then, it has had a number of unrelated uses including a sub-office of the Southern District Office, a restaurant, and currently it is used as a Wellcome supermarket There have been various attempts to have the government discontinue its commercial use, and to use it for some official function. One recent suggestion was to use it as a branch of the Hong Kong Police Museum.

An interesting historic building you can see just outside the popular Stanley Markets is the Old Stanley Police Station situated along Stanley Village Road just outside the market area entrance. This is a Declared Monument in Hong Kong (1984). Built in 1859, it is the oldest surviving police station in the territory, which remained in use as a police station and various military purposes until 1974 when it was officially closed. Today, the Old Stanley Police Station is closed to the public but you can enjoy the exterior architecture and appearance. It is a 2 storey building with traditional colonial architecture featuring colonnaded verandahs and windows fitted with green louvered shutters amongst other interesting features. Original interior features in the gunroom are of note but are not available to be viewed while the heritage attraction remains closed.

Disappointed! A historical building (police station) is now become a supermarket.......it can be a better use for history education.

This is the oldest police station in Hong Kong, with over 150 years of history, and it is a declared monument. The exterior looks well-preserved, completely unlike something so old. It used to house a supermarket, but now there are no shops inside, so it’s not open to the public. Visitors can only view it from the outside, which is a...
