bakehouse is the concept of acclaimed local chef Grégoire Michaud who opened up his original branch in Wanchai around 5 years ago. To this day, there are still queues which form daily to buy delicious pastries, tarts, cookies and other bread products at the first bakehouse. Now there are five branches around the city including this recent addition in the heart of Stanley Village. This new bakehouse is open from 8am to 6pm daily (closed on Mondays). Like its sister branches it is primarily for take-away orders but there are a couple of outdoor tables if you want to eat here and are lucky enough to find a seat. We visited the new Stanley bakehouse recently, passing by in the early afternoon just after lunch. There was no queue at that time. Same food items behind the counter. We are big fans of their sourdough tarts, which are unique and consistently delicious regardless of which branch you purchase from. The crust is crispy and holds the creamy, egg-filling well. These are excellent and well worth trying. The cinnamon rolls, apple crumble danish, croissants and cookies are always very good as well. They also make really good sausage rolls and Rendang pies when these savoury items are available. Overall, not in love with the location of this branch, which feels hidden in the back of the Stanley Markets area, would have preferred to have found them out on the promenade area instead. However, happy to have bakehouse as an option now when we are visiting Stanley on the southern side of HK Island.

I was a little disappointed as the egg tart is not even warm but is cold. It is better to take away because 1> u can heat up in the oven before you eat, 2> There is no indoor seat available and it is too hot to have a seat outdoor during summer. Overall, gave 4 stars is mainly because of the service which I think is outstanding.

The sourdough EGG TARTS, esp if you get it warm at 8am when they open, are INSANELY GOOOOOD. The BEST I've ever had... Other items I'd say are just so so... flat white coffee maybe 6/10 and other baked goods I've tried at other locations are just average -walnut raisin sourdough, donuts, foccacia...

For anyone who enjoys pastries and/or baked goods, this place is definately not the gold standard. Don't let the queues fool you. Have tried several of their more popular items across all different shops in hk and the pastries are often overbaked & dry. Today we were in the Stanley location and bought croissants, quiches and a sausage roll. Took a bite of the sausage roll and the meat was well and truly off. Got quite sick afterwards. Last time I'll ever...
