The Jao Tsung-I Academy (free entry) is a heritage attraction situated along Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida that is dedicated to the renowned Hong Kong academic, calligrapher, historian and painter (1917-2018) who was considered, alongside Ji Xianlin, to have been one of China's two greatest Sinologists.
The attraction is open from 10am to 6pm daily (closed on Mondays) and is situated in one of the series of historic and protected properties that were built in the early 1920's in Portuguese colonial manner. As such, it is worth a brief visit even if just to admire the exterior and interior architecture of the property which hosts the academy. Note that you can access the upstairs patio for very nice views down to the street and surrounding area.
As for the exhibition itself, it is a fairly small representation of calligraphy works created by Jao Tsung-I along with a bit of history of the great man. There is a bust upstairs, a library reading room on the G/F and at times access to the open courtyard behind the exhibition rooms.
Note: Jao Tsung-I Academy is located just next to the recently opened House of Macao Literature which makes use of a similar heritage building. You can combine visits to these two attractions along with others nearby such as the Tap Seac Gallery and Macau Tea Culture Museum all within very short walk of each other.
