The House of Macao Literature is a recently opened attraction along Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida in the St. Lazarus District of Macau. It is situated in one of the series of delightful heritage buildings situated along this street that were built in the early 1920s in colonial Portuguese style. The museum is open from 10am to 6pm daily (closed on Mondays) and entry is free.
The property itself is worthy of a brief visit, the exterior is colourful and very nice to see. Within, there are two ground floor rooms, two upstairs rooms and a open courtyard that highlight favoured colonial architecture in Macau 100 years ago.
As for the theme and content of this attraction, this one might be more interesting for locals than foreign visitors. The displays highlight mainly Chinese and Portuguese contributions to literature in recent centuries. There are several displays of historical literary figures of the 20th century that are interesting to read up on and learn about as well. It is a small collection and a leisurely visit can be done in 15 minutes.
Note: The House of Macao Literature is located just next to the Jao Tsung-I Academy which makes use of a very similar heritage building. You can combine visits to these two attractions along with others nearby such as the Tap Seac Gallery and Macau Tea Culture Museum all within very short walk...
