Stone Gate is the eastern gate to medieval town and Zagreb’s most important shrine. The only remaining entrance of Zagreb’s old fortifications. Stone gate is the only gate preserved today. It was built in 13th century as one of four main gates leading to the town. Together with St. Mark’s church, it stands as a living testimony to past times and free royal Gric city, a predecessor to Zagreb. Within the gate, you will find a shrine and stone slabs praising the Mother of God. The shrine of our lady of the Stone Gate houses the painting of the Mother of God. Which miraculously survived the 17th-century fire and is protected by an artistically forged iron fence. The square stone slabs are engraved all over, within the gate passage. These stone slabs present locals thanks and praise to the Lady Virgin. You will notice most of them have the word “Hvala Ti”, which is translated to “Thank You”. TIP: EVERY TUESDAY AT 8 PM LOCAL PEOPLE PRAY THE ROSARY AT THE STONE GATE. THEY SING AND SHARE THEIR PERSONAL PRAYER AND EXPRESS THEIR WISHES. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

In the walls around Gradec, the part of Upper Town built on a neighbouring hill to Kaptol, there were once five gates. Stone Gate is now the only one of these remaining. It was built in the 13th century, and stands beside a square tower from 1266. In 1731 a fire destroyed all the nearby houses, but a painting of Mary with Child on the gate was left undamaged. A chapel was established around this painting and a Baroque wrought-iron grille now protects the work, attributed to a local master from the 16th century. On the west façade of the church is a statue of a woman, a character from a famous Croation novel and the work of the sculptor Ivo Kerdić in 1929. On the other side of the gate, on the corner of Kamenita and Habdelićeva, stands an 18th-century building. On the ground floor of this building is a Pharmacy (Alighieri ljekarna) which has been in existence since 1350 and which, from 1399 onwards, belonged to Nicolò Alighieri, the great-grandson of the great Italian writer Dante

Stone Gate is one of the most popular and famous symbol of the Zagreb city Croatian capital and Zagreb center. It is an altar to the mother Mary, St. Mary of Stone's Gate. Don't know a whole story about history like: in which way Mother of God Virgin Maria picture survived the fire which happened in Zagreb in 18th century on upper town but there is an old story about it and Zagreb citizens will tell you . The fact is that Stone Gate is symbol where most of Zagreb and Croatian's citizens like to go and pray to mother Mary. This is the place where you can light up candles and pray for your needs and sufferings! And we believe that Mother listen our prayers. Also you can leave a flowers, mostly roses as a sign of gratitude. I lighted up my candle many times. It is really special feel. So if You ever visit Zagreb go on Stone Gate through Radić street You will see stairs on the right side guiding to the Stone Gate .

Near mother's Mary altar is St. Anthony statue so lilies are flowers which people left as st.Anthony's symbol of purity. If you are a turist, hearty recommend this place for truly peaceful experience no matter are you religious or not. Have a nice day in Zagreb!

P. S My opinion on: is that description of "Stone Gate" is relevant❤️ Thank You Because you don't to have be a Chatolic to feel peace...
