When you first enter the restaurant you will be ushered by hospitable hosts to your table. The restaurant is qyite popular and heard the waiters reiterated the absolute necessity to book two weeks in advance. However, this might not be the best place to dine if you are not intending to enjoy alcoholic beverages. As soon as the waiter realised that we were only going to order juices and coffee for drinks, the waiter becomes rather disinterested in serving or recommending anything else any further and he will rather spend a good five to ten minutes narrating the whole background of and the story behind the wines they have in store. Basically service was slow thereafter and you can be expected to be neglected. When I attempted to obtain the menu card to glance through the desserts, the waiter held on to the assumption that we were ready for payment and asked repeatedly card or cash, as if he was ready to send us away to free up the table. When enquired if the pancakes were available, he conjured a lie and claimed it was sold out during lunch. He seemed to have completely forgotten of the fact that he just mentioned moments ago to other guests that they are not open for lunch. Such a blatant and glaring lie that even a school kid has sufficient cognitive abilities to unmask it. So I inevitably questioned myself if the stories told about their wines were genuine or fabricated. It was good entertainment to hear how their wine likely cost 90€ in countries such as the UK, while it costs 25€ here. But before buying the entire story please do some research.
Now on the food. The shell of the prawns accompanying the green pasta was unfortunately not properly removed. I did not kick a fuss about it, since I will not like to wait 10 minutes to get the attention of the waiter and 20 minutes to have it changed or rectified.
Upon payment I tried to tip the waiter by mentioning that he could keep the change if he wanted to, but before sparing me 5 seconds of his attention he took the payment and swiftly reached for the change. Perhaps he was not expecting to receive a decent tip? With an expressionless face he returned me the change, and when I re emphasised that he could receive the change of nearly 30 kn he abruptly broke into laughter, contrary to his previous, slightly indifferent expression.
So yes if you are a wine lover you should by all means make a trip to this restaurant, otherwise other dining establishments might...
Read moreDidn’t think much of this place. The waiters seemed to look down their noses at us as we arrived. The place was nearly empty but they asked if we had a reservation and looked unimpressed that we hadn’t. They offered the “terrace” out the front, by the road. We accepted and tried to order Merlot (from the menu) and tap water. They had no Merlot so offered local wine instead and wouldn’t allow us to order tap water! Inoffensive cover music was playing which was generally quite bad. The food was quite expensive and very small portions. I ordered lamb shank which was the smallest I’ve ever seen, overdone and with the odd bit you could break a tooth on. My wife had stuffed pasta which was very small. The glasses of wine we were recommended were very small and the waiters felt insincere and supercilious throughout. They sent a very junior member of staff to us most of the time who looked like a young pot washer. The more senior chap shouted ‘lady, lady’ as my wife tried to leave, calling her back and pressing a Christmas decoration into her hand! I don’t know why he couldn’t give it to me - it felt a bit sexist. They said they were a top ten restaurant here! We walked past twice in the next hour or two and on both occasions saw three empty tables inside! It felt like we’d been profiled by our hippy clothes as we entered and...
Read moreThis charming, cozy restaurant situated in old part of the city offers incredible food with perfect service and atmosphere (soft lighting and non intrusive music in background, just perfect for pleasant dinnner). Upon arrival we started with cocktail. Friendly waiter offered cocktail of the house as it is something specific for their restaurant and one cannot try it anywhere else... it was perfectly balanced between sweetness and tangy fresh taste, and just delicious. Food we chose were for starter platter of dried meats and cheese, and for main courses beef steak that came perfectly medium cooked with delicious garlic and chili based side sauce served in separate small dish. and Agram pork fillet stuffed with mixture of pumpkin, spinach and cheese, wrapped in bacon and baked. Both dishes were fantastic. As side we chose crispy sweet potato slices and roasted vegetable mix... I can still feel burst of deliciousness of those vegetables! Food was accompanied with very nice local Syrah and local Malvasia wines perfectly rounding this amazing food. And in the end, last but not least, delicious desert cheescake with poppy seeds. Visiting this restaurant was a highlight of a nice spent day in Zagreb. Restaurant is small so I recommend...
