I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant tonight with some colleagues. One of them, a local, recommended the place for its focus on southern Croatian cuisine, and it did not disappoint. We tried a variety of dishes, starting with traditional cheeses and prosciutto, alongside delicious tortillas filled with vegetables (soparnik) and assorted cheeses. The highlight of the starters was the fried doughnuts (fritule) which were absolutely spectacular, and I particularly enjoyed the dish with spinach. For the main course, we tried frog legs, which were a standout. They were cooked to perfection and tasted incredible—definitely a new and delightful experience for me. We also enjoyed a selection of meats, including goulash with potatoes. Every dish was excellent, and the service matched the quality of the food. The regional wines we sampled paired wonderfully with the meal. The restaurant is centrally located near St. Mark’s Church, and we sat at a charming street table, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the evening. The atmosphere was laid-back, ideal for sharing laughs and unwinding with friends. This was by far my favorite dining experience during my time in Zagreb, and I’m giving it the highest possible rating. I will definitely return!

I really wanted to like this restaurant but no way I could give it more than 2 stars. First when we got in and asked if they had a free table they said that all the tables apart from 1 were booked. Fair enough. We took that one happy to have a table. The thing is that most tables stayed empty during our time there. We ordered some rakija as appetitive when the waiter also brought us a bottle of water and opened it for us without us ordering it. I was planning to get a bottle of water anyway but I really don’t like waiters deciding what to put on my bill. But okay. I could live with that too. The thing that really bothered me is that I ordered grilled calamari with chard and they said sure. When the dish arrived it was obvious it wasn’t chard but Rastika, which obviously tastes differently. I did eat it because I was starving but was extremely unhappy. When I told the waiter that it didn’t seem to be chard, he just casually replied “oh yeah, we didn’t have chard so we prepared rastika, I apologize”. I find it very insulting they just thought I wouldn’t recognize they gave me something else. I don’t expect special treatments but what I do except it is at least some respect. And this was definitely not that. Shame, I wanted to like the restaurant but the whole situation ruined it for me. To be honest not even the food was impressive. Not bad, but not the best.

The location was lovely and both the dining room and patio very comfortable. Our waiter was very patient with all of our questions and quite helpful. The octopus salad was spectacular! Absolutely perfect! The grandfathers plate was good but nothing special and the snails with polenta were not quite right. The snails were a bit over cooked and chewy and the gravy not to our liking. But, that said, not everyone likes everything so I am sure to others it is delicious. It just seemed off to have snails in a brown gravy that tasted like perhaps it was some type of meat stock. The polenta with bacon was very different from what we have had in the past - it was a bit crispy with the bacon and pretty good. As I mentioned, it maybe that it was just not to our tastes sine many others enjoy it. All in all, the restaurant location and design was comfortable and quiet, some of the food was spectacular, some ok. I would definitely go back for a glass of wine and the octopus salad!

Had 3 dishes. Would highly recommend the black risotto with squid, it was the best that we’ve had in Croatia - it was well cooked, juicy and just right, not too salty. The traditional donuts were amazing as well, it was very well fried that it doesn’t taste too oily but crunchy on the outside and fluffy inside. Paired with the cheese, it was very tasty and traditional. Didn’t have this anywhere else. The strukli was ok for us, couldn’t finish them as all the food portion was huge! The service was great too. We swapped our order last minute as we wanted to try the donuts and the waitress politely accommodated. The space was very nicely decorated and it felt very comfortable. Overall a great dining experience and they do have some very interesting exotic dishes such as frog for the adventurous foodies. The was a traditional slow cooked stew that was very popular but would need advance booking a day before.
