Wow, this must be the best kept secret in Dubrovnik. To my delight, I was the only one here for the one hour before closing even though it is the end of June so I had some of the best views in Dubrovnik to myself!
First off, this is included in your Dubrovnik Pass or city walls ticket so there is no extra fee to come here. The only thing that might deter you is the steep walk to the entrance but it's definitely worth it.
You actually get to walk all the way around the west wall. You will enter at Fort Minčeta but the exit is at Pile Gate.
The Foundry museum takes up all the floors of the tower and you get to see the ruins from the foundry as well as some pottery exhibits. The ruins could have had more written information about them but are still fascinating. There are toilets on the bottom floor of the museum.
In addition to the Foundry museum, you also get a chance to explore Fort Bokar and the archaeological site around it which has a beautiful view of the city.
Don't miss this one when you're in Dubrovnik!
Please note the hours on Google are wrong as they are not the summer hours. It is currently open from 8am -...
Read moreHidden, secluded, meandering, and apparently unknown. We visited this museum the day after doing the wall walk - and in stark contrast to the top of the wall, we had the entire museum to ourselves. Walk through twising passages, imagine what it must have been like to work in the foundry as you slowly make yourself through the tunnels and hallways. This place offers a cool reprieve from the hot Dubrovnik sun, and is quite fascinating to walk through. There's a mix of historical explanation and beautiful vistas as the path winds throuth. It's very long, taking you from near the top of the north-west corner of the wall down to Pile Gate. Make sure you go past Pile Gate to the fort and make sure you go up into the tower where the exhibits are.
This has no guide (older reviews mentioned one) and you're literally "locked in" at the top and told to find your way to the bottom on your own. When you come out the bottom through an unmarked door in the entrance to Pile Gate it almost feels like you got away with exploring a forbidden place.
This is included in the Dubrovnik Pass, which I highly...
Read moreAfter today, we no longer recommend visiting this place. We visited this museum last year and we're amazed by how the history of this museum came to life through the amazing guide, who was so passionate about the archeological findings and the old ways of forgery. So this year we decided to come back, to experience this magical tour again. But it was not worth it at all. The guide was there, but he was guarding the door. He told us, that the board had decided to not have guided tours anymore. Instead of his amazing tour, we were offered an audio guide, which we weren't quite interested in, as it just isn't the same as having a living person telling takes with enthusiasm. So we decided to take a walk on our own, which really wasn't the same. The museum did put up plates and signs everywhere, but it only vaguely explained the findings, it was nowhere near how much the guide knew and told us about. Without his presentation of the museum, it was just a bunch of rubbles and remains, it was quite...
