This place is a gem in a town full of cobblestones. The prices are not really that different (or much higher) from most restaurants (not pizzarias or street food stuff of course) in Old Town but this place is definitely in a different categorie. In most restaurants you get a seamingly thrown together, yet tasty salad or nicely grilled piece of fish. Of course there is nothing wrong with that but if you want something more... Some elevation in your dish. Something a little distinct in originality and outstanding in quality... This is the place to go. Not only is the food perfectly cooked, matching veggies and condiments bring it all together. It was just perfection on a plate. We had the Istrian Ravioli (stuffed with prawns and ricotta, complimented by some more very flavourfull prawns and a creamy wine sauce). As the main we shared the grilled John Dory filet (that was so soft, it just melted away in the mouth) with well seasoned Romano beans, nicely grilled fennel and some fresh tappenade with tomato and onion. And the fisherman’s plate, which had black cuttlefish risotto with a few little squids on top (creamy and packed with flavour), some excellent prawns (very moist, yum) with a green pea risotto (I think. it was definitely my favorite "side dish"), grilled squid tubes (with which the oil on the side went perfectly) and swordfish (wow! moist with a little bite). There's also an outstanding wine list with a few exceptional wines to choose from. Our waiter was very attentive and passionate about the food and wine. He definitely knew what he offered, explained the origin of the wine and gave some skillfull recommendations about the combination of dishes and matching flavours. I highly recommend this place if you want to wine and dine in a restaurant unlike the others...

Firstly, the ‘Dubrovnik plate’, featured; A traditional Dalmatian cheese, prosciutto, homemade dried sausage, marinated anchovies and prawns. The cheese is known as, lecevacki sir, it carried a medium firmness and had a mild, slightly herby aroma. The prosciutto tasted freshly shaved, it was fatty and delicate. The sausage tasted like a less fatty, sour chorizo, it was unique. The anchovies were tender, oily and carried a freshly-bold flavour. The prawns were a little too chewy, a bit overcooked, or perhaps not fresh.
The Cuttle-fish black risotto is a popular dish in the Dalmatian cuisine. squid ink is utilised in this dish to add colour to the risotto and to create a subtle umami taste. The cuttle fish was extremely soft and tender in the risotto. The dish on a whole was pleasantly soft on the palate. They included fried cuttle-fish on the top which carried a Smokey taste, creating a textural contrast within the dish. The dish had a very light taste of pepper and olive oil, which allowed the minimal flavour from the fresh cuttle-fish to...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience. We've been on a road trip through the Balkans (and more) for about one and a half month now, and Portun might be the best restaurant we've had the pleasure of dining at. We like to have dinner in the afternoon while on the road, so we had starters/mains, but they also offer a light lunch menu during the day. The food, the wine, the attentive service, the attention to detail... Just excellent. The Krajancic Pošip Sur Lie 2020 was absolutely phe-no-me-nal. The seafood was amazing. We shared the fisherman's plate & the John Dory for mains. The risotto and the swordfish were probably my favourite, but everything was great, it's hard to pick just one thing. But man, that swordfish was just stunning. A pretty difficult fish to get right, it has a tendency to be a little dry, but it was just absolutely perfect. I think it might be the best swordfish I've ever had. The John Dory, shrimps, ravioli (starter)... Also amazing. And the waiters couldn't be better, professional, passionate, attentive. Just all...
