Posat - wow...not really sure where to begin. We were given the recommendation by our hotel (that we love) so we trusted them & went with it. They had made a reservation but upon arrival the host acted as if he didn't know what we were talking about. We finally get seated in a lovely table with a great view. We weren't blown away by the menu but that was on us for not looking ahead of time. This is our 6th night in Croatia and we weren't feeling fish bc we have had it almost every night. We knew right away that the waiter was annoyed we weren't ordering one of the fresh fish. We aren't ones to cheap out on dinner. We might order a few appetizers or none...depends on how hungry we were. We had done a wine tasting previously so we weren't starving & skipped an appetizer (once again we could tell the staff was annoyed.) he was so hung up on no appetizer that apparently he missed my entree order of veal. My wifes dinner came out before mine...which we thought was odd at such a nice restaurant. She waited for a while on mine but decided to go ahead because it was getting cold. As she was almost done we asked if my veal was anywhere near being ready. The waiter got embarrassed and quickly blamed it on the cooking staff and that they had forgotten. Considering he never brought me a knife it was very obvious that he forgot! I told him just forget it "my wife is done. I don't want an entree now." He then runs back to the kitchen and 5-10 min later comes out with "my veal" He completely lies again about the mess in the kitchen and made us very uncomfortable with his aggressive behavior. It was the worst veal I have had and was cooked so quickly that it was barely edible. My wife and I had quite a few rounds of drinks and thought for sure he would offer to comp a drink since the entree that came out 30 min late?? Mistakes happen and we are understanding of that. But nothing came or an apology offered. This restaurant does not have the service to reflect the prices! Would not come back or recommend it. We have had nice dinners every night while traveling through Croatia and have been greeted by the friendliest people & the best food! From fine dining to more relaxed. This was hands...
Read moreWe wandered into Posat after being unable to make a reservation in advance, and were greeted by a particularly judgemental hostess. She invited us into the restaurant where we were then met by a much more friendly group of staff and the restaurant manager. We viewed the menu, and were seated with a great view of Pile gate.
The wait staff were charismatic and knew the menu well. We were also presented with a selection of fish and crustacean representing the daily specials.
The Couvert charge seemed to cover the provision of 3 bread selections, and a seafood spread of sorts. Also provided was a locally sourced olive oil. These were all good!
Scallops Cooked in what seemed to be a very neutral oil that did not add to the flavour profile of the dish. Would benefit from a sear, but that is of course at the chefs discretion.
Seared Tuna seared tuna cooked medium. 3 pieces of tuna seared and coated with toasted sesame seeds. Decent portion size- I believe served with Beetroot risotto. The risotto let this dish down as it was overly sweet, however I can see how this would pair with the saltiness of the tuna.
Seafood Soup A generic seafood soup. Homely, and not overpriced. Served with rice at the base of the soup- which did not seem to be toasted before serving leading to very crunchy and undercooked rice.
Grilled Octopus Tentacles A different mouth feel to usual, not rubbery at all. Served on Polenta. Polenta was nicely seasoned, and the octopus quality was nice. This was definitely the highlight dish of what we ordered.
Fried Potatoes Skin on, fried baby potatoes. A little dry, but standard for a side dish.
Aperol Spritz this was watered down and not prepared to a good standard.
There are definitely more vibrant dining options throughout Dubrovnik, however I can see the appeal of Posat.
I was a big fan of the presentation. As we shared the dishes, they were presented on one large plate.
Despite this, the dishes do not warrant their high prices compared to that of Michelin options...
Read moreDon’t be fooled by the beautiful setting. This restaurants staff is terrible once an issue arises. Our table of 9 asked not to have the couvert as of course we weren’t going to be charged 50€ for bread, they agreed and added it to our bill anyway. (5per person x 10) when we mentioned that it was on our bill at the end of the night, the manager said the couvert is the charge to set the table and the bread is free……. I showed him the definition of couvert on my phone…. He brought back the menus to show me that it says “couvert is charged per person” that doesn’t mean charged per person if youre entire tables says at the beginning you don’t want it! This is scam behaviour, especially by saying “well it doesn’t matter that you didn’t want the bread, the “couvert” is charged per person regardles. Especially considering our bill as a table was more than sufficient. We had multiple bottles of wine, cocktails, apps, mains, and everyone had desert. Scam behaviour and we will never return. Neither will any of the other guests of the villas in the area we own and lease to other high spending guests.
in response to the restaurants response. I have lived in Portugal for 3 years and I have travelled the world eating at many fine dining restaurants. If you ask to not have the convert. You don’t get the convert. And it is not added to your bill. Saying “it’s common practice to add it to your bill regardless that we asked not to have the bread (and didn’t receive it). Our bill was over €1000 which we are happy to pay. Your lack of values resulted in zero tip which although is not common practice in Europe we always provide at around 18-20% so congratulations. You scammed us out of €50 and lost €200 euro tip....
