The magnificent cathedral of St Anastasia also stands on the site of the Forum. It was founded by the Byzantines in the 9th century and rebuilt in the Romanesque style in the 12–13th centuries. It has a rectangular ground-plan with a large semicircular apse. The harmonious façade with three doors, completed in 1324, is divided in half horizontally with the upper part characterized by arches and columns and two splendid rose windows. The main window is Romanesque and the other is Gothic. The three-aisle interior is divided by two rows of columns and pilasters which support the high arcades. At the sides of the raised presbytery are engraved wooden choir stalls, the work of the Venetian Matteo Moronzoni (early 15th century). The ciborium with four Corinthian columns is decorated with different motifs (1332). Underneath is a small sarcophagus containing the remains of St Anastasia, dating from the 9th century. The altars are mostly Baroque; on one there is a lovely painting by Palma il Giovane. In the right-hand nave is an imposing Baroque altar dedicated to the Holy Sacrament; just beyond is the...

Beautiful Romanesque Cathedral in central Zadar built in 12/13th century. Named after the Sirmian martyr, to whom two popes bowed down; Alexander the III, who visited her tomb, and John Paul II, who bowed down in 2003 at the gate of the Cathedral.

There is also a bell tower that is well worth the small fee to climb the stairs to the top where you will have great 360 degree views over the city (see photos). The stairs are quite narrow but for anyone struggling with steps there is a stopping place at about 5 points on the way up so you can rest in-between.

A lot of the cathedral has been rebuilt after being bombed in WWII.

Whilst it is free to visit as others have said there is a very rude lady on the door.

Whilst it is totally reasonable and normal in a lot of coutries ot ask people to not enter wearing vest tops/shorts this lady was very aggressive and let the lady in front of me in with similar length shorts but told me mine weren’t in a rude manner and to respect God. We said nothing and went back the next day in trousers and saw her again being rude to...

Being a follower of Jesus means that he dwells within us, so that we may live in relationship and know him better. I’m a male, and it broke my heart to know that my wife could not enter because of the dress code. She was told that God still loves her but she should respect God’s house. In my opinion, Jesus would never turn anyone way. In fact, that’s a pharisee type mindset. Jesus came to break down cultural barriers and legalistic ways of thinking such as that. I think of the woman at the well, and other scriptures where Jesus says that he dwells within those who believe in him. It’s sad that men and primarily women are not allowed to go in and experience a church because of these reasons. Me and my wife will continue to pray for those who hoped to go in and the ones who did and felt hurt.

Yesterday we docked in Zadar, Croatia, and spent the day exploring the region with Viking Cruises. We started in the town of Novigrad, where we walked the cobblestone streets with its original medieval architecture and hillside fortress, learning what life would have been like during those times. Our next stop was the viewpoint in this photo, showing the beauty of Novigrad above the Adriatic Sea. (Yes, the sea!) We then visited a farm in Nadin, where we were welcomed with produce like figs, almonds, and a variety of liqueurs produced there. Just as I thought we were moving on, the family opened the door to what we learned was a tavern, and served us lunch of prosciutto, ripe tomatoes, cheese, olive oil, and bread, again, all produced or made right there. It was a delicious surprise and I love when big companies like Viking support local. I can’t imagine what that partnership means to that lovely family. ❤️ Because the ship was docked just across the street from the Old Town of Zadar, we had time to explore it, as well. We saw ruins from the first century B.C. Roman Forum, ninth century Church of St. Donat, and the Zadar Cathderal. It’s just about 2 miles around the old town, and worth the walk! Finally, we sat on the steps of the Sea Organ, listening to the erie music it produces under the gentle waves, and walked over the Greeting to the Sun installation which solar panels create a light show which lasts all night. We finished the day with a fantastic meal at Manfredi’s, the Italian specialty restaurant onboard the ship. Stay tuned for Dubrovnik! Have you been to Croatia?
