"The Greeting to the Sun" (Pozdrav Suncu) is a monumental public art installation located on the waterfront of Zadar, Croatia. Designed by Croatian architect Nikola Bašić and completed in 2008, it is situated on the city's westernmost point, near the famous Sea Organ, another of Bašić's creations. This striking circular installation measures 22 meters in diameter and is embedded into the pavement.

The structure is composed of 300 multi-layered glass plates arranged to form a large disc. Beneath these glass plates lie photovoltaic solar modules, which absorb sunlight during the day. As night falls, the stored solar energy powers a vibrant, dynamic light show. LED lights embedded within the installation produce an array of colors and patterns that mimic the solar system's movements, creating a mesmerizing visual experience for onlookers. The lights are synchronized with the rhythm of the waves and the sounds of the Sea Organ, offering an immersive sensory experience that connects the natural and the technological.

"The Greeting to the Sun" symbolizes Zadar's harmonious relationship with nature and its innovative spirit. It also serves as a nod to the city’s historic significance as an astronomical and navigational hub. This unique combination of art, science, and nature has made the installation a popular attraction, drawing both locals and tourists. Visitors often gather at sunset to witness the installation come alive with color, making it a celebrated spot for reflection and appreciation of the beauty of the natural world intertwined with...

Visiting the Greeting to the Sun was one of the highlights of my trip to Zadar. This stunning installation, located right by the sea next to the famous Sea Organ, is an incredible blend of art, science, and nature. During the day, the large circular platform quietly absorbs sunlight, but as soon as the sun sets, it lights up with vibrant, colorful patterns powered by solar energy. It feels like the ground itself is alive with energy!

What I loved most was how the installation connects you to the cosmos — with a solar calendar engraved on the ring and smaller discs representing the planets nearby. It’s not just beautiful but also educational. The nearby Sea Organ adds a magical soundtrack as the waves create peaceful, melodic sounds, making the whole experience truly multi-sensory.

The location is perfect for an evening stroll along the waterfront, watching the sunset while enjoying this unique light show. Best of all, it’s completely free and open at all times. I highly recommend visiting just before dusk to catch the full effect. A perfect spot for photos, relaxation, and soaking in Zadar’s...

Beatiful tourist attraction, I recommend to visit it after sundown to fully enjoy the light show.

The Greeting to the Sun (Pozdrav Suncu) is another innovative installation by architect Nikola Bašić, located near the Sea Organ on Zadar’s waterfront. It is a circular structure made of glass panels embedded with solar cells, spanning 22 meters in diameter. The installation symbolizes the connection between nature, technology, and the universe.

During the day, the solar cells absorb sunlight, converting it into energy. At night, the stored energy powers a mesmerizing light show of vibrant, colorful patterns on the surface of the circle. The display is synchronized with the rhythm of the Sea Organ’s music, creating an immersive sensory experience.

The installation also represents the solar system, with smaller circles around the main one symbolizing planets and their relative distances from the Sun. The Greeting to the Sun is a celebration of light and nature, making it a beloved landmark and a perfect companion to the Sea...
