# Copenhagen Illusion Museum: A Mind-Bending Adventure in the Heart of the City Located in central Copenhagen, the Illusion Museum offers visitors a fascinating journey into the world of optical illusions, visual trickery, and mind-bending installations. While the 198 DKK admission fee might initially seem steep, the unique experience and photo opportunities make it a memorable addition to any Copenhagen itinerary. ## Location and Accessibility The museum's prime location makes it easily accessible from major tourist attractions and public transportation hubs. Situated in the bustling heart of Copenhagen, it's perfect for combining with other downtown activities or as a refreshing indoor escape during inclement weather. ## Exhibits and Experience The museum features a diverse collection of interactive installations that challenge your perception and understanding of reality. From classic optical illusions to modern, Instagram-worthy setups, each room offers something different: The gravity-defying room allows visitors to appear as if they're walking on walls or hanging from the ceiling. The vortex tunnel creates a dizzying sensation of movement while standing completely still. Perhaps most entertaining is the size-altering room, where friends can appear giant or miniature depending on where they stand. The exhibits are well-maintained and thoughtfully designed, with clear explanations of the scientific principles behind each illusion. Staff members are available to help visitors capture the perfect photo, ensuring everyone gets the most out of their experience. ## Time and Value Consideration A typical visit lasts about 60-90 minutes, depending on how much time you spend photographing each installation. While the 198 DKK (approximately $29 USD) ticket price is somewhat high for the size of the museum, the unique photo opportunities and interactive nature of the exhibits provide excellent value for social media enthusiasts and families looking for engaging activities. ## Best For - Friend groups seeking fun photo opportunities - Families with children (particularly ages 6 and up) - Photography enthusiasts - Anyone interested in the science of perception - Rainy day activities ## Tips for Visitors - Visit during off-peak hours (early morning or late afternoon) for fewer crowds and better photo opportunities - Wear solid-colored clothing for the best illusion effects - Bring a fully charged phone or camera - Consider downloading the museum's app before your visit for enhanced experiences - Plan to spend more time than you might expect - the photo opportunities are addictive! ## Final Verdict While the admission price might give some visitors pause, the Illusion Museum delivers a unique and entertaining experience that's particularly enjoyable when shared with friends or family. The combination of scientific education and pure entertainment makes it more than just a social media photo op. The central location and indoor setting make it an excellent addition to any Copenhagen itinerary, regardless of weather conditions. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Pros: Excellent photo opportunities, interactive exhibits, central location, friendly staff - Cons: Relatively high admission price, can get crowded during peak hours Whether you're a local looking for something different or a tourist exploring Copenhagen's attractions, the Illusion Museum offers an engaging and memorable experience that will leave you questioning your perception and smiling at the photos for days to come.

I visited the Museum of Illusions in Copenhagen on 16 September 2025, and I have to say — it was one of the most fun and mind‑bending experiences I’ve had in a long time. Every exhibit was creative, interactive, and surprising in ways that really made me rethink what I see. The visual illusions, the sensory installations, the playful photo spots — they all come together beautifully for a memorable visit. What especially stood out was the kindness, attentiveness, and enthusiasm of the staff. Cille deserves special praise — she went above and beyond to help me experience everything at its best. She not only guided me through how some of the more complex illusions worked, but also suggested the best angles and moments for photos, making what could have been a simple walkthrough into something celebratory and delightful. True care was evident in how she treated even small details. It’s clear that she and the rest of the team are dedicated to making each visitor feel welcome, curious, and engaged. Thank you so much, Cille, and the entire MOI team, for helping make my visit exceptional. I highly recommend this place to anyone in Copenhagen — whether you’re travelling solo, with friends, or family. It’s not just a museum; it’s an experience you’ll remember.

We arrived about 1.5 hours before closing time and bought tickets. The man at the counter who sold the tickets was incredibly nice and was the only good part of the whole experience (a young guy with a mullet). Next to the counter, there’s an escalator that was blocked off, and since it was closed, we didn’t think we should go up there. We looked around to find a way to enter the museum as no staff were guiding us. We saw a door that people were coming out of and thought we should go in there. It said "exit" above the door, which was very tall and wide. Since there were no other entrances and no staff to guide us, we went in.

The "exhibits" were very small and basic, some of which we had seen a thousand times before. We took some pictures, as we had paid an expensive entrance fee.

Then, we saw that there was another escalator inside the museum where people were coming down from, and we wondered where they were coming from. We went back to the lobby and asked at the counter, and a young girl told us that we should have gone up the blocked-off escalator, as there was also a first floor in the museum.

She allowed us to crawl under the barrier and go upstairs. We did this in the hope that it would be cooler up there, but to our disappointment, we encountered the most unpleasant staff, turned-off exhibits, and generally poorly executed displays with things we had already seen downstairs.

Upstairs, we encountered the well-known exhibit with a milk carton placed on a plastic tube through which liquid flows to make it look like it’s floating. This exhibit was turned off, so we had paid to look at a milk carton placed on a plastic tube...

A small man with high teeth, whom I assume was a staff member, came up to us and asked how long we had been walking around upstairs. We explained that we had entered incorrectly because the escalator was blocked off, and he told us that his colleague, the young girl, had told him about us, and he wanted to check if we had tickets! We showed him our tickets and explained that we didn’t think it was okay that they made a mistake by blocking off the first floor nearly an hour before closing time but still sold tickets at full price for the whole exhibition.

He then went over and turned on the "milk stick exhibit" and walked over to a blonde woman who was cleaning. They stood whispering while occasionally glancing at us, and we got a very uncomfortable feeling. I said aloud to my boyfriend that it felt like they were talking about us, and only then did they stop and go their separate ways.

The woman who was cleaning followed us around upstairs, closing off the things we had just looked at, so we didn’t feel very welcome. We decided to hurry down again, and in the end, we just left.

If you can’t manage to have guests "close" to closing time, don’t sell tickets... We would have had a nice experience and bought some fun things in their shop, but when the staff on a Friday night would rather have time off than do their job and offer good service and general respect for the visitors, it’s a big NO THANK...
