First of all, note that Google shows only The Tower, which is an attraction and a wonderful view of Copenhagen. However, the restaurant inside the tower, Bojesen i TÄrnet, is the subject of this review.
Ensconced in the tower (hence, the âTĂ„rnetâ in the name) between the Danish Royal Palace and the Danish Parliament, Bojesen i TĂ„rnet delivers a wonderful dining experience on so many levels â from the drinks, food, and service to the architectural setting in the tower and the views from the top.
Make your reservation, but arrive about 15-30 minutes early so that you can go through security screening (there is an express line for those people with dinner reservations, as opposed to tourists who are just going to see the tower itself) and for time to enjoy the view from the tower before entering the restaurant. From the tower, youâll get a 360-degree view of Copenhagen.
Prior to the opening of the restaurant, the tower had been used to store various statues and artifacts, some of which are used to decorate the dining rooms. For example, there are two large lion sculptures âwatching overâ the dining area. Tables and chairs are simple and modern, letting the soaring brick walls of and stairway to the tower provide a magnificent atmosphere for the restaurant.
The cocktail, beer, and wine list is excellent, and we can recommend the gin with citrus-and-rose-infused tonic to start! We decided on dining from the prix fixe menu. The soup was poached cod, oyster emulsion, radishes, herbs, and dill oil. I was surprised by how green the soup itself was, but it provided a visual âpopâ for an astoundingly good dish.
The second course featured a thin slice of Danish cheese (don't ask me to spell or pronounce it), crispy rye flakes, pickled and fresh herbs, and horseradish creme. One of the herbs grows wild in many rural Danish home yards, apparently, so we joked that these herbs were the most delicious lawn clippings we had ever eaten. Honestly, though, this dish was mouth-wateringly delicious.
For the main course, we had rump steak (very tender and wonderfully rare), garlic confit, charred broccoli and onions, and whey sauce with ramsons (the bulb root of a broad-leaved garlic). The steak was cooked perfectly to a medium-rare stage, and the presentation was eye-catching.
There were three cheeses with this course, but I dug in before taking notes on the name of the first cheese, but the second two were Camembert and a Danish blue. The cheeses were served with a cracker that was topped with dried fruits and seeds.
Dessert was a thin layer of chocolate cake, topped with chocolate mousse, a chocolate shell, blueberry sorbet, and dried raspberry hearts speared with a chocolate "arrow."
From start to finish, we were delighted at every course, as well as being impressed by the professional and knowledgeable servers. Adding in the glorious architecture and views makes Bojesen i TÄrnet one of my top 50 favorite...
Read moreAlthough I have been to this attraction before, it occupied a very high place on my list of things to do in Denmark. I attended on a Sunday afternoon and the queue was non-existent. I am not a huge fan of heights, but this was okay as there were metal bars all around the top of the structure. Some people elected to take photos by pushing their phones in between the bars, but do so with caution for obvious reasons. It also seemed to be a very child friendly place.
It was very windy on the day I attended, so dress warmly on days upon which the sun is not shining. The view is lovely and it is nice to get a beautiful and unique view of Denmark. Although it is a long way up, I did not experience a âfalling sensationâ as can be common with some people who fear heights. The journey to the top of the tower is a real adventure and a lot of fun.
The gift shop is nice and also alludes to times when there have been times in literature which have alluded to The Tower.
Walking up The Tower is very interesting and please take notice of what you can see on the way to the top. There are very very narrow stairs right before one gets to the top of the tower and a sign advises people to keep to the right. People do abide by this. The stairs are very narrow and when I attended people used their commons sense and did not push or shove.
There is a space for artists to showcase their work and this changes constantly. During one of my visits, the space was interactive and this was what made it even more attractive.
It usually takes approximately an hour and a half to see everything, but it might take longer if you really take your time in the space in which works of art are showcased.
This is still one of my places to...
Read moreThis is a must if youâre in Copenhagen and itâs free! You go through the main entrance to the Christiansborg Palace and then on your right youâll see an entrance to the restaurant and the viewing tower. There is a queuing system for the tower. When I looked through the door to see if anyone was about then I got a very abrupt security guy tell me I had to queue even though there didnât seem anyone around! Apart from that it was a great experience. Went through a security check and then you go up in a lift to where the restaurant is and then you go up in another lift which takes you to a spiral staircase and then you go up a few steps and then you see the four different viewing openings over the city. Cool place to come and especially as itâs free. There are toilets located on the level where the restaurant is and theyâre...
