This small restaurant is truly a gem. It is found on one of the oldest streets in Copenhagen. There is a banner with the restaurant name hanging above the door, so it is easy to spot on Snaregade 4.
You enter along side the kitchen, which is separated by a glass wall. Very nice touch! The downstairs dining room is small, maybe 8 tables, so it has an intimate feel. There is a slightly larger dining room upstairs. The walls are painted with large pine branches, and the entire place feels quite cozy. The menu changes seasonally, and everything is locally sourced.
The food here is fantastic, and the staff are wonderful. We started with cocktails, which were quite interesting. Mine had a tarragon infused gin and absinthe - served martini style. My husband had the cocktail with aquavit and a plum flavored liquor. Both were original and lovely.
You can either dine on 4 or 6 courses. We opted for the 6 course meal. The starting dish was scallops, served cold with what they described as cabbage and white asparagus. It was way more interesting and complex than that. The entire dish was just lovely, bright and flavorful!
They also serve the most delicious sour dough bread made in house and served with butter. So good!
The second course was thinly sliced and very tender local squid, served topped with a sauteed slice of vegetable and topped with crisply lardo. This dish is sensational!!!
The next dish was served cold: yellow beets topped with local cheese, pine nuts, grains, and topped with a cheesy foamy sauce containing trout roe. The flavors were complex, with each bite bringing up a different combination of all these flavors.
The first meat course was beef tartare, that had finely minced sun-dried tomatoes in it. It was topped with something crispy, which added a nice contrast to the tartare. This was really a wonderful riff on this dish - it had a lot of flavor.
The main course of the dinner was tender slices of deer meat, served along side spinach, and a caramelized onion sitting in a bed of sauce. They topped the meat table side with a wonderful somewhat fruity but deeply flavored sauce. This was sensational.
I highly recommend the wine pairing. The choices were incredibly interesting, and the pours were actually of sufficient size to accompany your food.
Dessert was fairly simple: local pears marinated to soften them, and served with a crumble and a delicious cardamom ice cream made in house. It was a lovely finale to a perfect meal.
I cannot say enough nice things about the staff. They knew a lot about the food and wine, and the entire evening had the feel of dining with friends. I cannot recommend this place more highly.
Be sure to make a reservation. The place was full on a Monday. You won't get a seat if you...

We visited another Michelin restaurant the day before visiting this restaurant and were very satisfied and had an excellent food. (We also paid 2000 DKK for another Michelin restaurant for two people.) So we were very expected to visit this restaurant. We made a reservation for 5 people, but 3 of us got sick so only 2 showed up. (The person who was sick was the mom of two kids 13 and 15 years old so she and her two kids could not come together. The 600 DKK reservation deposit is paid by the cancellation fee. No problem) We arrived 10 minutes earlier than our reservation time. I was told that my three people couldn't come, so we waited for the table to be re-set and was able to sit at the table according to my reservation time. After receiving the menus, waiter asked for water, so we got still water and drank it. There were no problems at all up to this point. And as we waited to place our order, no one looked at us. They didn't take our table's order, and they took other two tables order first (the other two tables is the people who wait a line behind us when waiting for seated) and even they received their wine to. We still waited for order for THIRTY minutes, but no one looked us. For reference, we were Korean, and the other two tables were white people. What I could feel in this situation. We asked a random waiter to call the manager and explained the situation. Instead of apologizing, the manager made an excuse saying we had misunderstood. Misunderstood??? really??? And we couldn't even get an apology from the waiter who ignored us until we finished eating, and only the manager came later and gave us a short apology.
We ordered six courses each and a bottle of wine. The price was 2300 DKK for two people. I was surprised they charge water for 50 DKK for person, and the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special. I paid quite a bit of money, but I didn’t receive any valuable food and service for Michelin title. Furthermore, I’ll never visit to this restaurant again doesn't even apologize. Specially, a young white waitress who ignored us all the time until we left restaurant, without even making any eye contact, you should go back to school to learn morality again.
Read moreExcellent entrance to a cosy but brilliant and formidable restaurant. Great variety of egg burgers, cheese burgers, fish burgers, hamburgers, beefburgers and bacon burgers. There were 5 of us( work together in the local library) and we were celebrating the birthday of triplets in our group called Derek,Davina and Dave. They chose the restaurant because of the magnificent and marvelous menu. Most of us ,as a starter, chose the chutney and cheese fritters, tinned beetroot and raw garlic salad, spicy meatballs in an egg, cream, peppercorn and cheese sauce and the hot turkey and boiled celery tartlets. Pete McDouglas, the group leader, was so happy and satisfied with the incredulous service the waiters were providing that he ended up wildly clapping his hands for most of the night and was merrily getting tucked into exceedingly massive slabs of piping hot beef. His wife,Leonora O' Hara, from Brisbane, fell in love with the fish hot pots. The restaurant also entertained us with the chatty, courteous, caring waiters who were entertaining and outstanding. The chef who was from Wales, Alan Dericksson, came out of the kitchen to greet us, and recommended some fairly decent wines. Try the hot teas, they are phenomenal. I,myself really enjoyed the main course which was Chicken served on a bed of sizzling hot peppers, pepperoni, peperami and pimiento paste puff pastry in a delightful cheese and rich butter sauce.Next to our table there was a really friendly and fascinating couple from Luxembourg, Mr and Mrs Greenbirg, who were really enjoying their egg burgers served on a bed of raw onions and cheese and pilchard paste, decided to join our group. They felt so grateful that they were singing for us for most of the night. The manager was also very friendly and fabulous. He told us about his childhood and the village he grew up in. He was passionate about cheese tasting and skipping. Try the fresh cocktails ,they are fairly decent. The service was out of this world and good as were the hot creamy buns. We are definitely returning with more friends and family in the future. The cheese board is good and...
