What a beautiful place. Mesmerizing architecture and most importantly full of history. Salome Ureña and her husband, pedro Santana, and many other important figures of the Dominican Republic history rest in this museum. The flame is eternally on and it uses coconut oil. The architecture incorporates french, Arabic, Spanish and local touches. The ceiling painting is beautiful with the day of the judgement on the right side and eternal life on the left side. Flags of the armed forces are also displayed including Dominican Army, DR Navy, national police, and other institutions of order. There still some available spaces for tge future heroes of Dominican Republic The entrance is free of cost. There are some local guides who can provide detailed information about museum and visitors can provide a tip of 5 dollars or less if the prefer. I...

Beautiful place to visit in about 10 minutes or so. It’s “FREE”, but there are guides who will say to you at the entrance “It’s free and I can give you a tour and at the end you can give me whatever your heart thinks is right” The tour was about 2 minutes and the guide at the end said “people give me $5-$10.” We were surprised because he was kind of pushy and the tour was extremely short. I understand they have to make some 💰, but they shouldn’t take advantage. You should still visit this place, but just be...

Stunning building, looks like an ancient church turned into national monument, not very easy to interpret if you're not Dominican, needs a bit more effort to make it more tourist friendly, maybe with interactive QR codes here and there so it can be easier to navigate, though the feeling of national shrine is there, very solemn space.

Originally built as a church in the 18th Century, now it's the Pantheon for the heroes of the DR. It was here that I learned this fun fact: The flag of the DR is only national flag on Earth that includes an image of the Holy Bible. Beautiful building; easy stop; allow a half hour or so.
