La Alpargatería — Local services in Santo Domingo

Seemed to be a popular place because it was packed with hip people. However we didn't have a great experience. They didn't have any of the mixed drinks we ordered (even though they were listed on the board). Every single time we asked for a mixed drink, they told us they didn't have it and then went to help someone else. It took a long time for them to pay attention to us again and for us to order anything. When we settled for beer, they took a long time to get it, even though all they had to do was grab the bottles from the fridge, open it and hand it to us. Not a horrible place but the service wasnt great either. Though, we were happy we got horrible experience because we left and went to the Cuban bar around the corner and we met Latin American Grammy-winning musician Lulo Perez there! People, I cannot say enough about this place. First of all, we only went here because my wife wanted to buy a custom pair of shoes (affordable and beautiful). They have been making shoes in their family for 150 years. But what we didn’t know is they have a tapas bar and a full bar. My wife ordered a ginger lemon margarita with red pepper flakes around the rim. She said that it was the best margarita she’s ever had in her life. I had a lime ginger juice smoothie. To die for!!! This is a nice place to spend the evening with friends. They have a nice vintage atmosphere with a few table games like jenga so is commond to hear people laughing and blocks falling off. The prices aren't the cheapest but nothing scandalous, the menu just have a few basic drinks and snacks.
