Not very big and astonishing compared to the world's largest, University of Tartu's Botanical Garden is still very popular among locals and visitors. Most people just use it as a park, for a nice little stroll during a free moment. Of course, Tartu has lots of parks, but the Botanical Garden is situated quite conveniently in the city center, it is always very colourful and due to the constant work by its employees, it is permanently changing - let just a week pass and you'll see something new and beautiful. It is always worth to pay a visit. Naturally, if you happen to have a deeper interest in plants, it is a wonderland. Still, it has something for everyone. There are small gardens inside a garden like the rosary, the hillside covered by various mosses, or the peon garden. There are places where you can sit and read a book or watch your kids play. Read moreBeautiful oasis in the middle on Tartu. Most beautiful in the June when everything is starting to bloom (Peonys and after that roses) and is extra green but you'll find always and every day something new. One of the best places just to walk and enjoy the beautiful weather. You can also have a picnic or play with children on the grass and playground area on the other side of the park. In winter time it is good idea to check in the glass houses! I would say that if you come to Tartu just for a few hours then it would be good idea to visit Botanical Garden and Werner cafe (although there are other good cafes also close by like Tüümian and Säde). You can just walk in into the garden, no ticket but when visiting glass houses then there is separate ticket.
PS! If you're really looking then you may see cat and a squirrel who are living there.
PS2! Of course all photos are made by myself in this exact botanical garden...

If you are with kids the take notice that there is a playground in one of the farther corners. You can have a great picnic there with the kids. Also - if you go with kids, then the greenhouse could be worth a visit - there are turtles, parrots, insect eating plants and other things to catch the attention of the kids. Rose garden is in high bloom in July and August. The peonies are also a sight to see and smell in June-July (well the blooming time really depends on the year and how...
