To preface, I am a very experienced Hornet flight sim pilot and was very excited to check this place out. I was equally excited to notice that they use the same flight sim application that I use on my rig at home (DCS: Digital Flight Simulator, anyone can download this to your own PC. It's a fantastic simulator). I help to run an F/A-18 training program called "The Hornet School". The following is a message that I posted on our Discord because everyone wanted to know my experience. If anyone is interested in finding us, here is a link to our Discord channel: https://discord.gg/thehornetschool ______________________________________ So here’s my experience… First, I had a lot of fun. I was the only customer for my time slot, so it was good for me so they could go off script. LOL. I paid for the 2 hr session which included a 30 min briefing and a second 15 min briefing for the second sortie. I asked them to fast track me… and they did. Not to brag… but, I knew a lot more than their usual clientele and they were pretty impressed with how I handle the Hornet. That being said, the problem with a place like this is that the usual clientele doesn’t have the knowledge that you or I have. So….. they had to dumb-down the system…way, way…way down. There was no head tracking or VR (@kah). The cockpits were all Vipers on the outside, Hornets on the large flat screen. Yes @Badger, the HOTAS is the TM Warthog. But, part of the dumbing down was that the controls were limited to only guns, aim-9M, ACM Acquisition Radar, and speed brakes. No rudders, no HSI, no TACAN, no HMD, no SA page. The game controller in another room would activate the hook, gear and flaps. They would do Case I, but only straight in. We tried doing overhead breaks… but, very difficult because you couldn’t turn your head to find the boat…and again, no TACAN, no HSI/CRS line, no DME. And, it was weird because they started the mission way late in the evening that it was getting dark…It should’ve been a Case III! I was frustrated, to say the least not having all my tools. Though, again… it’s about their clientele… and not for DCS nerds. There was only one guy who was fairly familiar with DCS. The rest of the staff… was fairly clueless. They had 8 cockpits that were all networked… so you fly with all your friends. I’m really glad that I didn’t put on a flight suit because it was REALLY hot in the cockpits… And was thankful to be wearing shorts. After all that… I think I won’t be going to something like that again…learning that they dumb down everything. But, I get it…

I’m a retired commercial ATP rated pilot. I never had the opportunity to fly a 737, or a 73 simulator, but, it was always a bucket list item. I discovered Flightdeck several years ago, and finally was able to fit a flight in their 73 sim into my schedule. Oh, my, do I wish I’d done it sooner! I have flown many different simulators as a requirement in my career, and let me tell you, Flightdeck’s 737 simulator, even though it is not FAA certified, is as good as any of them. It’s not a full motion sim, but it is what could be termed a cockpit trainer. It has excellent visuals, all of the aircraft systems are fully represented, and the control feel is convincing. Allen was my instructor, and his knowledge and cockpit manner were terrific. He explained the systems, took me through the checklist, and in flight he was one of the best first officers or captains I’ve had the pleasure to fly with. I booked an hour session, which comprised of a flight from KLAX to KSAN (San Diego). We did a push, start, taxi out, and then a takeoff. We flew a departure (SID), climbed to cruise altitude, and then flew an arrival (STAR) into KSAN, using the ILS as guidance while I hand flew the airplane to the runway. After landing, we taxied to the gate, then performed a shutdown. The debriefing was just plain (plane?) fun! Allen was just super. Will I take another session? You bet I will! Highly, highly recommended!!!

As a previous student pilot, and always wanting to becoming a Commerical airline pilot, when I saw this opportunity I knew I would have the time of my life! Not only did I have a hiccup with my inbound flight and wasn’t able to make my original reservation; the staff helped me reschedule my appointment, they also allowed me to change my 30 min block to a full hour. Scott the flight instructor was beyond knowledgeable, informative and courteous. I would recommend flight deck to anyone interested or curious to know how a Commerical airline pilot lands such a big jet, or someone wanting to simply explore their horizons within the aviation industry! Loads of fun, and Scott by far is a great part of such an incredible experience. Thank you flight deck and truly a special thank you to you, Scott!

I got a session to simulate flying a Boeing 737 yesterday as a birthday present for my fiancé, but I ended up "flying" instead! Our session yesterday was so memorable, from the very hearty greeting from Paul, the owner, as we first arrived, to the educational (and fun!) experience with Scott, our instructor, who was so thorough with all of his explanations. Scott took time to answer all of our questions - mine because I'm interested in getting a pilot's license and my fiancé's because of his fear of flying. The cockpit was on par with an actual Boeing 737, and the simulation screen was of high quality, so it felt like the real deal throughout the flight. We had such a great time and didn't want to leave. We'll be coming back many more times in the very near future!

I finally got to give FlightDeck a go after first discovering them back in 2020, it was well worth the wait! I did the Fighter option because I’m a giant aviation geek. Tommy was our instructor and did a great job of explaining the controls and focused on important numbers (missile ranges, landing speeds, etc) such that I didn’t feel lost. I’ve played flight sims like Ace Combat before but never with a throttle and joystick. I had a great time dogfighting with others, and the staff did a a good job encouraging and providing commentary. They also were helpful to the players who struggled at times. Like I said, I might be biased as an AvGeek but this was well worth the money and really scratched that Top Gun itch.

Pretty fun place! Came here after the Pacific Airshow since the sky was too foggy to see any aircraft. Came here for the Flightdeck and bought Fox-1 and Fox-2. Fox-2 is a little boring when playing alone but that didn't stop me from coming back twice! I got a free sticker too. Both times I've gone the instructors, ATC, and other staff have been very nice, and the simulators are pretty cool. Super chill staff, especially Riley "Gun Slinger". If I had a favorite staff member it would be her for sure. Front desk attendants and ATC guys are also pretty cool and don't mind chatting with people, super cool place, felt very comfortable around everyone. The place is well worth it if you like jets like I do.
