My visit to Musée Calvet in Avignon was an absolute delight. Housed in a stunning 18th-century mansion, the museum is a true treasure trove of art and history. The collection is impressively diverse, spanning centuries and featuring everything from classical sculptures and ancient artifacts to beautiful paintings by renowned artists.
What struck me most was the thoughtful curation of the exhibits. Each room tells a unique story, with artworks and historical pieces displayed in a way that’s both engaging and educational. The museum’s atmosphere is serene, and the fact that it’s fully climatized made the experience even more enjoyable, offering a comfortable retreat from the summer heat as you explore the rich collections.
Another fantastic aspect is that admission is completely free, making it accessible to everyone who wants to immerse themselves in the art and history of the region.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, offering insights and answering questions with enthusiasm. The museum itself is well-maintained, and the architecture adds to the overall experience, with its grand staircases, elegant rooms, and charming courtyard.
Whether you’re an art lover or simply curious about the rich history of Avignon, Musée Calvet is a must-visit. It’s a cultural gem that offers a deep and rewarding experience, leaving you with a greater appreciation for the arts and the history of the region. Highly...
Read moreAt 17h45, a male museum employee with glasses probably age around late 50s came to tell the visitors that the upstairs area will be closed in 5 minutes. We were basically rushed out to go down to the ground floor in 5 minutes . But it was only 17h45. The museum is supposed to be open until 19h.
Then he said the downstairs/ground floor area will be open untill 18h45. I understand that the employees want to go home earlier. But if they are short staffed, they should just indicate on their website that the upstairs exhibition area will close at 17h55 and the downstairs area will close at 18h45.
I visited the museum 2 days ago in the afternoon but since at 18h30 they already closed the upstairs, I came back a bit earlier today to see the upstairs exhibition, and still got rushed out at 17h55.
Hopefully the management of the museum can adjust the opening hours to correspond to the real opening time so the tourists won't feel...
Read moreI am sure it’s a wonderful place but sadly I wouldn’t know anything about it because they wouldn’t let me in because of the size of my backpack — nevermind accommodate me in anyway to offer a place where I could leave it. I was super excited for a piece of Avignon history and am leaving know with a sour feeling knowing that if the staff would have wanted to help, there would have been several options where to just leave the back pack (btw has anyone ever heard of lockers in this place?). One more disappointment to add, after relenting to my fate I asked for some other form of information about the museum, a flyer or booklet e.g. Apparently those are non-existent according to the ever so helpful employee, even though that is hard to believe for a museum with this name...
