What a potential disappointment. Almost 35per cent of the Audio Units don’t work and you are simply instructed to press the button to get the channel when it must excruciatingly obvious that many of the units are faulty. This means you are simply sitting on a bus with out any prospect of knowing what’s going on It is patently obvious that the issue is known about So why not explain if you know to come with your devices fully charged including headphones earbuds etc then you can download the rewind app and you eventually get a rewarding tour. It’s a great city and a real shame they are not more upfront about the best way to enjoy the tour

Great way to view parts of Lyon you would otherwise miss. 4-car tram winds its way around impossible tight corners and junctions with an earphone commentary. The cars have glass sides and roof so it's like a greenhouse in there when the sun shines. There are no fans so minus a point. When you book the tour it tells you the meeting point but they don't tell you to go into the shop to validate your ticket. I booked an 11.30 tour but the confirmation tells me it starts at 1100 which isn't helpful. Worth booking if looking for something to do in Lyon.

Two big issues:

On the first day of two, the driver literally sped through the city running seven red stop lights, breaking EVERY speed limit, blowing through pedestrian crosswalks, some with people trying to cross passing cars in oncoming traffic lanes, ... you get the idea. When he caught up to the bus 30 minutes ahead of him, he tailgated it down the mountain. Near the end of the route we discovered what his hurry was. He parked in the bus lane (forcing even the city transit to go around us) got off the bus (as all the passengers watched him) crossed the street and entered a patisserie. We all just sat in our seats looking at him through the windows as he ordered a couple of pastries then casually walked back to the bus. I kept thinking, "doesn't hop on hop off city wide Lyon track the speeds and locations of their buses?" Obviously not.

Over two consecutive days we ended up on the same bus in which the audio system was not working. I guess we could have waited 30-45 minutes for another bus but since neither driver spoke any English they couldn't tell us if the problem was system wide or just with that bus. The hand written sign made it unclear.

The next day, the ... same ... bus so we got off, walked a while the got on a bus where there audio was working.

And oh, by the way only half of the people who tried to install their app to listen on their phones could get it to work and those who did, had to allow their app to (understandably I guess). Track their location).

Because not all phones could or would use the app, some people played it for their friends to listen. Even though the message is paired to your location, they were all 1-2 seconds out of synch with each other resulting in total cacophony.

Boo hiss to...

I took the tour called Renaissance Lyon: Cathedral, Courtyards and Traboules on 16 September at 11 am, and really enjoyed it. The excellent guide was Jean, and the tour was really wonderful. The cathedral was interesting, but for me it was about the hidden old city, the traboules - we entered and exited at least four - and the courtyards (saving the most beautiful for last!). It is well worth your time! The only critique, and I'd say this about any tour that used earphones, is that a number of people had difficulty hearing. A few took their phones off and just stayed close to the guide. Of course 20 people can't all stay close to the guide, I had trouble, not because of Jean's accent - her English is excellent, but as often the narration was muffled or distorted. It is the reason for my four star rating - otherwise an easy five! Don't let this stop you however. The old town of Lyon is wonderful and this is an exceptional way to get to know it. I ended up eating in this part of the city every one of...
