My friend and I were passing by the Jardin and decided to stop and listen to a lovely open classical concert, so we sat on the edge of a lawn like everybody else.
At first my friend was sitting cross legged on the grass and a security guard politely asked her to not do it, so she immediately sat near the edge. However, moments later an old man aggressively asked her to sit further off the edge ( Note - she was already sitting on the edge but her backside was still touching the grass).
She was baffled as to why he was so aggressive towards her and quietly pointed out all the other people sitting exactly like her, if not worse - not to mention the children that were running on the grass, around trees, in the flower beds etc. (Important to note, that while speaking she was in the process of moving, with no resistance. And everything was said in a low tone as not to disrupt the concert).
He then grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her up, angrily saying that she should then help him police everyone. She asked him to let go and not touch her, and pulled her arm away from his tight grip, and quickly headed to the exit.
The whole scene was so surreal and disturbing, that I thought he was just a random man harassing her. So I went to talk to the guards about it, only to discover that he worked there. The guards tried to brush it off and told us to drop it, gesturing with their hands that we move on.
The whole episode was just unnecessary, and extremely unprofessional on his part. There was absolutely no need to be aggressive let alone physical.
We understand that it can be frustrating to control a crowd of tourists/people that pass by to watch a free open concert.
But there are so many better ways of approaching a situation like this, like adding signs, adding borders around the grass, etc. But if you can't, just continue to politely request that people move. Taking out anger and frustration on a stranger, who was just enjoying the music, is not ok.
They should have been more prepared, and we were so disappointed that nobody else seemed to care about how inappropriately this was handled.
All of this happened within 12 minutes. We barely had a chance to enjoy the music.
We truly hope that this man finds better ways to manage his anger issues and that no one else has to...
