Chapel of Reconciliation — Attraction in Berlin

An important part of Berlin's history of the "Death Strip", the original church built in 1894 was blown up by East Germany during the Berlin wall segregation era. The new church was built in 2000, and continues to be remind visitor's of the bloody history along Bernauer Strasse. During our visit, I felt a sense of calm and goosebumps the moment I walked into the chapel. Luogo nel complesso di grande spiritualità , la cappella, di forma ovale, sorge al centro della "fascia della morte" definita dal ex-muro di Berlino, nel punto in cui vi era già una chiesa eretta nel 1894 e demolita nel 1985. La sala interna è in argilla cruda ed è principalmente illuminata dall’alto attraverso un’apertura nella copertura. La parete esterna, staccata da quella interna, si presenta come un unico ovale realizzato con listelli di legno, leggermente staccati uno dall’altro in modo da illuminare il corridoio che circonda la sala centrale. L’ovale esterno (in lamelle di legno) riprende l’orientamento della vecchia Chiesa della Conciliazione, quello interno (di argilla compressa) riprende invece l’orientamento est-ovest, tipico delle chiese. Il corpo in argilla compressa è stato costruito nel 1999 sotto direzione del costruttore austriaco Martin Rauch, specializzato nella lavorazione dell'argilla.
