Schloßplatz is a small but scenic square in Dresden situated on the south side of the Elbe River at the Augustbrucke. Sadly the square was mostly destroyed during the WWII Bombing of Dresden. However, it has been restored to resemble the 15th century setting and historical atmosphere of the square.
Here you can see an impressive monument to Friedrich August, in front of Oberlandesgericht Dresden building facing Kaholische Hofkirche (Dresden Cathedral). There are other nice monuments nearby, including the 'Nacht' Monument upon the steps leaning to the Bruhl Terrace, at Schloßplatz.
You can also have a look for the peculiar paved stone with the letter 'N' near the cathedral. This is where Napoleon Bonaparte started to parade his troops after the battle of Dresden in 1813. Additionally, you will find fine architecture in the buildings that surround Schloßplatz. These include Kaholische Hofkirche, The Neo-classical Georgenbau and the Royal Palace in the backdrop.
There are many nice photography opportunities of the monuments and buildings situated at Schloßplatz. It's worth passing by and spending a few minutes to enjoy what you see here before continuing onward with your sightseeing endeavours in the city...
