Bathhouse of the Winds (Museum of Modern Greek Culture) — Attraction in Athens

This is another of the three venues making the Museum of Modern Greek Culture, formerly the Greek Folk Art Museum. I found this venue to be the most difficult to find (I do not use GPS!). A nearby shopkeeper walked me to the correct street. This museum is really delightful in a former 19th century public bath. The building has been carefully restored. The Abid Efendi bathhouse, dating back to the period of Turkish rule in Athens, was used in its original form until 1870. During renovations that year, European-style baths were added, and its operations were restructured. In this new form, the bathhouse remained active until 1956.

Στην καρδιά της Αθήνας, το "Λουτρό των Αέρηδων" αποτελεί μια ζωντανή μαρτυρία των χαμάμ κατά την οθωμανική κυριαρχία, ειδικότερα από την περίοδο μεταξύ των ετών 1430 και 1669. Με μια ιστορία που εκτείνεται για πάνω από πέντε αιώνες, το λουτρό αυτό προσφέρει έναν σπάνιο ενδοσκοπικό φωτισμό στις παραδοσιακές τελετουργίες καθαριότητας της εποχής. Δυστυχώς το μουσείο φαίνεται να έχει περισσότερο παρελθόν παρά παρόν. Η αρχική μαγεία της εισόδου, με ένα μοντέλο που απεικονίζει το παλαιό κτίριο, γρήγορα δίνει τη θέση της σε άδειες αίθουσες με ελλιπή εκθέματα, μη λειτουργικούς QR κώδικες και έναν εκτός λειτουργίας προτζέκτορα.
