This walk was the unexpected highlight of our brief stay in Ubud, and a nice respite from the noise and the traffic. The walk is a loop to and from the main street of Jl. Raya Ubud that can be started from either the market that adorns Jl. Kajeng outside Saraswati Temple, or at the other end, a few hundred metres further down the road, in an almost hidden path that pops out between the museum and the Paon Seafood restaurant. The first hundred metres along Jl. Kajeng competes with crowds, markets and scooters, before it becomes a much quieter and scenic road. At the top of the small hill it becomes a footpath, and then you veer off left into the rice paddies. At this point the walk and the views get better with every step, especially once you turn back towards Ubud and head towards Sweet Orange Warung, which is a great place for a break and drink. The last section of the walk is a bit tricky, involving a narrow rough path clinging to the side of buildings, before it eventually pops out back onto Jl. Raya Ubud a short distance from where you started. It can be done in both directions, but doing the start in reverse is tricky and hard to find. A short distance into the path you’d forget you were anywhere near the noise and chaos of Ubud’s main streets. A lovely short walk, under an hour, and a little glimpse into Ubud before...
Read moreThis is a rural area north of Jl. Raya Ubud that is within close proximity to the city centre and a convenient opportunity to walk through working rice fields as part of visits to Ubud.
In addition to seeing rice paddies and an impressive water irrigation system, there are numerous villas and some neat little coffee shops and cafes built up along the walkways.
We very much enjoyed a morning walking through the Kajeng Rice Fields recently, including a great stop at the cute little place called Brick Wurang where we were served sweet Banana juice drinks and an order of lumpia while enjoying views of the rice fields.
Probably best to allow at least 1.5 hours to walk the fields and have a cafe stop before returning to the city centre. You can easily spend more time or combine with other area walks through areas like Subak Juwuk Manis (north) and/or Sari Organic...
Read moreFor anyone looking for a walk that takes you away from Ubud central, this would definitely be ideal for you. The Kajeng Rice field walk is about 20-30mins and brings you on a loop through the many rice fields that are situated north of Ubud Central.
It immediately transports you away from the traffic and noise of the main area into a peaceful trek. We went just before lunch and there weren’t that many people along the path which.
There are many cafes and restaurants along the walk too including Sweet Mango in case you need to stop for food or drinks which is really convenient.
Most people walked from the entrance that is closest to Guten Morgen Coffee Lab, but I would recommend potentially walking from the other direction which is Jalan Kajeng itself (Brick Warung is the restaurant to...
