Ubud is home to many beautiful boutiques, but Threads of Life stands out as more than just a standard gallery. They go above and beyond to promote and support traditional Indonesian textiles and natural dye production—an important and often underserved area.
As a big fan of their work, I can personally attest to the craftsmanship and authenticity of the pieces offered at Threads of Life. It's worth noting that each purchase is truly one-of-a-kind, resulting from years of relationship-building with indigenous communities across Indonesia. This approach has provided stable income for these artisans, allowing them to continue weaving and pass their wisdom to future generations.
Even better, Threads of Life offers wonderful hands-on classes at their Dye Studio in Petulu. Set amidst nature, their open studio and half-day batik classes are my personal favorites!
I'd like to extend a big thank you to Ibu Tutut and Meri for their incredible service. They took the time to explain each beautiful textile and patiently answered all of my questions.

Read moreI absolutely loved this store. I think this is the best store in Ubud, especially if you’re into textile (Batik, indigo dye). They have another location 20 minutes drive north of Ubud, but this location is the one for clothings. If you see something you like, take the time and carefully look it through. You’ll notice that the craftsmanship is superb. These are not mass-produced items, like some others in the area. They’re high quality products. Beautiful stitches. Beautiful work. If you see something you like, get it before it’s gone, because they don’t have that many items. I bought 3 items from them, one of which is a jacket! (Who buys a jacket in Bali?!) And I loved all of my purchase. The folks working here are all...
