Trieste's Jewish community museum Carlo and Vera Wagner — Attraction in Trieste

I visited this museum on a Friday in late June.

This is officially one of the best museums I have ever visited in my life. As someone who is exploring their Italian Jewish identity, this museum offered such an insightful, well-researched history of the Trieste Jewish community. The museum worker at the front desk was kind, helpful, and knowledgeable, and provided many book recommendations for my specific interests. Everyone else in the museum was equally helpful and kind.

Great museum exploring the history of the Jews of Trieste. Luckily, many of the treasures to see here were hidden from the Nazis during the War so you can see a book from the 17th century, the license authorizing the Jewish community by Maria Theresa and silver synagogue objects.

Especially touching was the displays dedicated to the victims of the Shoah. Would have liked to see more related to the Jewish...

Piccolo museo ben gestito e mantenuto da personale affabile e preparato, che ho visitato nell'ambito di un tour delle culture triestine. Racconta la storia della comunità ebraica di Trieste e dei suoi figli più noti, tra i quali Svevo, Saba, Elody Oblath, Ernesto Nathan Rogers e Leo Castelli. Una comunità colta e aperta, che ha contribuito a rendere grande Trieste con la creazione di aziende, progetti lungimiranti e le molte opere di beneficienza, ma che è stata ricompensata con le leggi razziali prima (moltissimi i collaborazionisti locali) e le deportazioni poi, e che con le partenze del dopoguerra si è ritrovata decimata. Commovente la piccola sezione che racconta la storia di alcune famiglie vittime dell'Olocausto (tra queste i Vivante, decimati) e interessantissima la storia di Trieste Schàar Zion, porta di Sion dalla quale sono partiti centinaia di migliaia di ebrei in fuga dai pogrom prima e dalle persecuzioni nazifasciste poi. Da visitare non solo per i turisti, ma anche e soprattutto per i triestini, che con questa comunità hanno un debito di gratitudine: gran parte delle bellezze che la città propone ai turisti oggi e sulla quale parte della città vive sono state costruite con il lavoro della comunità...
