1984年7月に開館。設計は千葉県立美術館、群馬県立歴史博物館などで博物館・美術館施設の経験をもっていた大髙正人建築設計事務所。2016年に閉館した神奈川県立近代美術館　鎌倉館の別館として建てられた。「常設展示スペースの確保と収蔵スペース拡充のため、元県営駐車場の敷地に建てられました」とのこと。建物は地上2階地下1階。展示会場は2階にある。かつては常設展示中心のようでしたが、今は企画展が中心。常設的な展示としては、前庭には現代彫刻が展示されている。 1階にはカフェがある。一方で企画展のグッズを売るスペースはあるが狭い。ミュージアム・ショップに相当するスペースはない。また入場料も含めて企画展のカタログ購入など金銭のやりとりは現金のみで、クレジットカードも交通系電子マネーも使えない。ただし、入場料は65歳以上なら半額になるとか、県立の美術館・博物館の有料観覧券の半券提示で、観覧料が割引になるとか、いろいろと工夫してます。

「これもさわれるのかな展」を見に行きました。この企画展では、立体作品を触って楽しむことができます。2階の受付でビニール手袋を貰って、鑑賞します。触ることが出来て一番良かった作品は、建畠覚造氏のWaving figureです。ウネウネしている波の位置と角度が全部ちょとずつ違っていて、波を組み合わせて上から見ると動いているように感じるます。ウネウネの造りの細かさ、触るとはっきりわかりました。米林雄一氏のcublic castleはエッシャーの絵を立体的にしたみたいで、みる方向を変えると、向こう側がみえたり別の階段があったり思わぬ発見があります。どの面から見てもかっこよく、それぞれキメ顔になっています。小田襄氏の「時空の超越」は、金属と鏡を使って永遠性を表現しています。鏡によって作品の中に別の世界があるかのように仕組まれています。佐藤忠氏の作品は鉄製なのに、不思議にも紙みたいに軽く見えました。

went to Images and Sign: reReading the art in the 1960s

Small space of installation art, sculpture, painting, prints, books, postcards, poster.

It is sadly no photos, and no english. but interesting to see how different variation of art in different medium was used to tell their story.

To be honest my favorite section was their books on the 1st floor. some books sold as cheap as 200 yen showing art from europe and japan. I bought 3 books in the end and cost almost the same as the ticket to get in ☺️

great to come alone, not recommended for all kids unless they are...

I have visited twice. Always excellent with Japanese modern art. I wish for more English interpretation, even just a sheet with the piece number or something that could be pulled up...
