This was a horrible shopping experience even I spent over 44k Japanese yen at this place. I grabbed 2 shopping baskets that were one in black and the other in yellow from the entrance. My dad operated the shopping cart as my mom and I browsed the merchandise. A Japanese women ( Don’s staff) came to our cart and suddenly took our yellow shopping cart without any communication and then rudely threw all stuff from the yellow basket to the other black basket ( My dad and I shocked because we were confused about her behavior. Afterwards she left, still no any communication…. My dad has to pick up the rest of stuff that were falling to the ground to the black basket. I guess the yellow basket maybe not for customers but this was not our fault since it was at the entrance with other black baskets. However, how rude this Japanese woman is? Why so much mean to a foreign senior? If you don’t like serve for foreign tourists, you should not pick a job at department store in Kyoto! More than 50% local people are reliable of tourism in Kyoto. If I can rate zero star to this place, I will definitely give zero star because other staffs there are also terrible. Overall I gave one star out of five to my 2025 Kyoto trip because less value received comparative to the my Kyoto trip 2 years ago. I will never come back Kyoto again since many bad experiences this time. There is a xenophobic attitude among in Japan now especially in Kyoto. I came to Japan and spent more than 20k US dollars for a week and received “being hated”? Thanks , never come back here. Bye bye...
Read moreStore had a decent amount to sell, but not enough employees to handle the tax free line. However, that is not the main gripe with my review.
I was halfway through the tax-free line, having waited 20 minutes when I had friends waiting outside for me to finish, when an employee comes up to me (and nobody else) and tells me that I need to have a minimum of ¥5k in goods in order to get into the tax free line. I was aware that what goods I had in my hands were more than ¥5k, but he had me second guessing at this point, especially since he had walked up to me to say that. I asked him if the items in my hands were somehow below the amount and he said “I dunno, but you should probably just get in the non-tax-free line”. I do so, and when ringing up with another clerk, my total came out to ¥6.5k. The clerk behind the register who was assisting me was kind and offered to take my goods to the tax-free registers, but I was not about to wait in line AGAIN when I had people waiting on me outside, and the line had now grown even FURTHER past the point that it was before, so I took my purchases and left.
I will not be shopping at this location again. Get your employees trained to understand the general cost of most items before they pull people out of the...
Read moreI dont know why so many people love buying souvenirs here, maybe this one is the biggest shop. Well, i found that if u buy candy or snacks in don quijote u will have best price. Coz i had experience buying candy n gelly in nishiki market kyoto that much expensive than in don quijote dotonbori. Otherwise, if u look for souvenirs like key chains, wallet, japanese fans, u better go to nishiki market, shibuya, 3 coins, airport shops especially kansai. Those offer lower prices than don quijote. But... donquijote sell many things, and so various things u cand find. I found kimono hijab in donquijote dotonbori n perhaps it sell in all don quijote. This one is new souvenir and very unique. They also sells japanese printing cotton sheets. U can make it into whatever u want, as a handkerchief, as hijab or cloth, table tops, wall ornaments, and so on. And those are not sell in others shops. At least, i didnt find it in many shops i had visited. But in ginza n kansai airport u can find shop named Tsutaya, that sells japanese printing handkerchiefs,...
