I wish I can give no star but I can’t. The male reception staff on 20th May evening was utterly rude. I offered to give him all shoes locker keys and my tickets at one go as there were no instruction on the protocol he insisted on, but he didn’t take them all. He just tried to rush through all things in Japanese with limited body language impatiently. Finally we understood that he wanted us to give him the male and female keys separately. No problem it’s easy peasy. We followed his instructions and clear stuffs for him. In order to do things step by step without overwhelming the counter, I just hold the tickets in my hand when we sorted the keys things out. After he exchanged the shoes locker keys to the bath locker keys to us, I found there was no barcode to log the expenditure so I wonder how can we rent a towel. After I said towel, he just went crazy and repeated the same words angrily. At the end he chose to hit my hand and grab the tickets in my hand with angry murmur. I was so shocked. I had never experienced such a terrible customer service in any place I visited around the world, it is even more ridiculous that happened in Japan. With so many tickets that they collected from EACH customer, why don’t him just pick one from table so I can understand what he was after? I am not sure but his attitude is much better towards: 1. Westerner male 2. Japanese Asian female who doesn’t speak Japanese might be in trouble when you visit the bath. To be honest if the facilities are great, I think it still worths a try, but it is not. The shower area is not clean and the floor felt so soapy. There are only two indoor and one outdoor pools which are equally hot, so most of the customers only stay for 15 minutes and have to go asap and it was too stuffy. I had visited another bath/onsen nearby, that was a very local one but with cheaper price, better staffs, more pools and cleaner facilities. They don’t speak English too but we can communicate without any problem. We even ate dinner there! I hope people can see this before going Fu-Fu-no-yu as they may simply ruin your mood and it’s not worth it. AVIOD THIS PLACE! You have better choice out there!

Getting there is alright. You will not have direct access to it via bus or train. You have to walk a bit to get to it from both methods, approximately 5 minutes on foot from the nearest bus station. You can use your day bus pass (600 yen) to get here and from. 1000 yen for an adult to enter the baths. I visited this onsen twice, once in March and the other for New Year's Eve. I am a woman, so this review is for the women's bath. I don't frequent onsen too much, but I have been to quite a few in my own area in southern Gifu already. The outdoor onsen here at this location was too hot for me. It was a pretty day, but what a shame that the water was just too hot. The indoor onsen were less hot, yet there were only two indoor baths. Outside, there is only one hot spring and then two cold springs. The natural views outside the onsen are limited. The music they have here is very relaxing and nice, however. I would prefer for at least one indoor window to be open . . . Wouldn't it be nice to appreciate the outdoor views a little more that way? There are saunas available in the bathhouse if you like those. 2-3 people per sauna. ****Don't forget to bring your own towel. ~ Picture is the view from the lounging area.

When you get into this place you have to take off your shoes and place in a locker, and take the shoe locker key to the admission counter and pay for the entrance. After you paid the counter will give you another locker key which will be used inside the public bath area. The onsen is a bit small as compared to other paid public japanese bath. In view of the high admission fee this seems not quite worth. But what pissed me off is that when I leave, the old guy in the counter keeps giving me a wrong shoe locker key. As I remember where I put my shoes in, I told him this is not the correct key but he just don't listen and insisted that I remember wrong. Understand that there could be communication problem, but his attitude really pisssed me off. Eventually an old lady step in, then I finally get the correct shoe locker key and have my shoes back😭

If you've never tried onsen (hot spring water) but are curious, this is the one to try!! It's one of the best daily onsen I've been to. It is spacious, modern, and clean, with friendly and helpful staff, and unlimited time for the entry fee. Body soap, shampoo, conditioner, and some facial products are complimentary. Most of the instructions have an English translation. The staff will help you if you can't understand how to buy a ticket. The change room is large, and the lockers are free. The onsen has 2 indoor baths, a large rotemburo, 2 individual cold plunge pools, a dry sauna, and a steam room. This wide range of features is not common. It's only a short walk from Arashiyama station. It can get crowded, especially on the weekend, but the evenings are usually quiet.

Public onsen near Togetsukyo Bridge. The prices are different for weekdays (1,100) and weekends (1,300) and 200 yen for towel rental / 100 yen for small face towel. First, you take off your shoes and store them in the shoes locker. Then you buy your ticket from the machine (you can ask the keeper for assistance, they can speak some English). After you get your ticket, you can exchange the shoes locker's key to the clothes locker's key and take you towel from the counter. The onsen has 2 indoor pools and one outdoor, and the temp of outdoor is slightly warmer than the indoor. There is a resting area open until around 21.30 pm with vending machines selling milk, water, and ice cream.

NO TATTOOS ALLOWED BUT... Still can enjoy the great onsen experience! Was my first Time and I forgot Tattoos are not welcome. Super friendly staff helped me cover my tatoo with big plasters if you cover them with big plasters ( available on site on sale 300Y each ) Perfect for a relaxing regenerative break, after of exhausting days walking. Dress code : nude in dedicated separate areas for ladies and gentlemen. Mixed crowd of locals and tourists. Small souna, outdoor and indoor bathing pool warm and cold plunge Very clean and affordable! 🤩 Highly recommend for ending a day after exploring the Bamboo forest near by.
