Pretty good for the price we paid. (Pretty hanayakana course, which was the most expensive the restaurant has: 14100 yen per person, 11 courses) But initial course of 7 courses wouldnt meet almost all the people’s needs. I would rather suggest Nishiki to delete 7 courses and start from 8 or 9 courses. The reason why I said it’s cheap or reasonable is that, if you want to eat this much at Michelin stars in kyoto for dinner, the price will be over 30000 to 40000 yen per person at least for small courses. But here, paying less than 15000 yen, you have nice kyoto kaiseki courses in private room. And the flavour and expression is quite ok level. I would say Nishiki was somewhat better than Michelin stars in other countries with weird fusion Japanese cuisine. Here at Nishiki, food was very traditional Japanese and represents kyoryori pretty well.
Some bad things are as below: It doesn’t have scenic view at all, even though it is near arashiyama dougetsu kyo. Private room is not totally private. You can hear next room’s people talking. Thin walls.
Pricewise, it is not that bad, I suppose. Compared to my previous...
Read moreWe had 4 different kaiseki meals during our Japan trip including ryokans, and Michelin starred. This was pretty good out of our limited experience and definitely best value. It was 6000 yen for the lunch set. We were initially abit skeptical because there were many empty tables. However, the food came out splendidly and there were select items that even rivaled much more expensive restaurants. I think it's because many tourists simply skip this after already spending money on street food and souvenirs outside. However, if you are a foodie and want to try a kaiseki style menu, this is a good choice. Do watch your time though, like any tasting menu, it's certainly not for...
Read moreVisited a couple times both with great service. They put a lot of effort into explaining the dishes and enjoyable to see the presentation and course. Mostly empty when visted with a group around. The hostess really attempted english and had a nice smile. Seemed very friendly to tourists explaing how meal would go before entering. Have a look at the menu they have set and enjoy! A good chance at trying some local traditional food in a nice setting after some walking. Food was very good and blended together enjoyed some tea, sake, and a juice during the stay. Some of the top food I had...
