I made my reservation a month prior via online and it was quick and easy. I chose the the retro modern package. When i arrived for my Kimono fitting, i was greeted by a lovely woman, i confirmed some details and then it was go time. I was shown a selection of kimonos which was included in my package and ones that i could pay extra for. I stuck to my package and went for a blue one with floral prints on it, i was then shown a variety of obi to choose from, again ones that are included in my package and ones which i could pay extra for. I was shown a variety of them by the lovely staff there, but they were too fancy, for the kimono i had picked, it had to have an obi that matched, nothing fancy, just a basic one, and dark in colour which gave the whole outfit a good contrast. Due to the kimono being a light blue, i chose a dark blue obi to match. I was then given options for the under garment, but chose to stick to my package. Once all three of the above were chosen, i was taken to get dressed. I had a lovely woman who was friendly and gentle when doing my fitting, she made sure i was comfortable when she had to tie ribbons on me, which were quite tight, but it is needed to keep certain parts of the kimono in place. Watching her dress me was amazing, it was like a form of art, and she did it all in perfection, she made it look so easy and made sure every little detail looked perfect. I was a little worried due to the tightness around my chest, as i felt that i couldn't breathe properly, but not long after i became used to it and it wasn't a problem. She did a great job, it was perfect, i loved it! Once i was dressed, the next thing to do was style my hair, i was shown the options, again basic ones to ones that i could pay extra for, but this time i chose one that i needed to pay extra. I thought why not go all out and have the perfect hair too. I had another woman who styled my hair, she was lovely and friendly. She did a great job on my hair, i love it that much that i actually slept in it and went another day with it up. Once my hair was done, i chose my bag and transferred all my stuff into that bag. I paid the extra cost for the hair, then chose my sandals and i was off to show my kimono off to the world. I was out pretty much all day in it, so i got my moneys worth, a lot of walking. Lets just say, sandals are not appropriate footwear for hiking, but i did it. My overall experience of this place, is that it gave me an amazing first time experience wearing a Kimono, the staff were friendly, patient and happy to help, a bunch of lovely people. The process was quick and it was interesting to watch the whole process, of how a woman would get dressed into a kimono. If you come here you will not be disappointed. Thank you to the people in Vasara kyoto for making my Kyoto trip a great experience, i thoroughly...

It was mine and 3 other's first time experience and we enjoyed ourselves in Nara with our kimono! I recommend booking online via Rakuten first for a small discount. The attendents are very kind and patient with your needs, like color & fabric coordinations. After you pick your kimono, you will get options on a belt and/or additional accessories, with come at additional costs per piece. For women, you will get options in hairstyles, too (2 are free and they are cutely plain; 1 for short and 1 for long/medium length hair)! I took extra lengths for my outfit, like higher quality kimono and better hairstyling with additional hair accessories, which you can pay their totals after they've finished. These extras costs are on top of the rental reservation costs, but it's nice to not have the one who reserved to be charged the extra costs of everyone in the group. I think it's still very affordable of an experience. They do not do makeup so if you care, just do it yourself before coming. You will be wearing the sandals they provide and wearing kimono limits the amount of movement you can make, so account for extra time when moving around and coming back for returning them. We had cut it very close and while they may close at 6, it is highly advised you to return the kimono by 5:30pm; if you call before 5pm to inform of them of a later return, please try to tell them in Japanese as they do not speak perfect English but -again- are very patient. You will be charged a late fee (1100Y), but not as much a fee for not telling them at all (6600Y)! Just be courteous and mindful! I'd pay to do this again to wear even more nicer kimono! Looking forward to doing so again in...

The best! I walked in, the day of the rental and booked my sessions on instagram, super easy! Vasara has many beautiful selection of kimonos, and accessories. The staff guided me through the choices sectioned by pricing and style. There were options of vintage, modern and many different patterns and colors of fabric. After selection of the kimono with selection of possible upgrades with accessorizing the gown, I was ushered to a dressing room where a staff came and help me pull together the fitting. The staff was professional, kind, quick and though the kimono is tight, they did a fantastic job of always making sure I was feeling okay. Then, the hair settling; I loved how organize they were, giving me a binder with all the hair designs and upgrades in accessories for my selection. The women who did my hair was quick and she braided my hair to perfection. I have very thin, so I didn’t think anyone can make my hair look nice, but she was magic!

I was so happy with the whole experience, the price was reasonable and I decided to pay extra for the insurance and rental return the next day. The insurance is totally necessary, as it rained during my rental and i knew it will be professionally cleaned after use. Also, they shop closes at 5pm and I had booked a photographer and tour, so adding the extra time to return the following day made it easier for me to not rush.

It took me an hour to get ready in the kimono and when my husband and son came, it took them only 15 minutes to selection and be ready. The staff is so efficient and quick, my family appreciated it.

I would highly recommend Vasara! Their staff, all of them wonderful. The experience fun...

The experience fun and memorable.
