The Western Restaurant in Osaka's Shinsaibashi is Absolutely Delicious!

The walls seemed to be 'sound proof'. Our floor was fully occupied but I could hardly hear anything, not even the toilet flush. There were 2 pillows per bed. The windows could be opened slightly for ventilation. We've flown in from Canada and had 4 giant bags. We need to access lift from the subway to the hotel. Most of reviews commented that they were advised to take Exit 6 to the hotel, and that particular exit are all stairs to the ground level on the main street. Hence, I did a bit of a virtual tour of the hotel prior to departure and found a lift at CRYSTA NAGAHORI that brings you up to the ground level in the vicinity of Best Western Fino. I have emailed the hotel to confirm, if the lift does connect from Crysta Nagahori to the street's ground level. Khaing was nice to check for me to confirm. She took the extra effort to email the Subway Station Master for the direction and confirmation. (Many thanks, Khaing). Extra shout out to Abdel at reception, what a lovely natured and professional, helpful young man. I eventually met Ms Khaing on my third day at the hotel, she seemed to know that I was looking out for her. She immediately exited the Reception counter area to greet me. It was a very warm gesture to extend a welcome to a hotel guest. I thanked her repeatedly, as her effort has made our trip from the subway to the hotel seamless. Crysta Nagahori is an underground shopping arcade, is directly connected to Shinsaibashi Station on the Yotsubashi, Midosuji, and Nagahori Tsurumi-ryokuchi Lines. Whichever train that you're coming in from, make your way to Crysta Nagahori. Look for SOUTH EXIT 3. Take the lift up to level 1 (B1 is the subway, B2-B4 is the parking complex). When you've reached Level 1, exit the lift and there will be a Best Western Fino sign right infront of you (look slightly up), Hotel Morning Box will be on your right. Turn right into the small road of that sign, turn left on the 2nd turning, the Best Western Fino Hotel will be on your right. Hope to help those travelling with elderlies, children and big luggages, to avoid the stairs to get to Best Western Fino. Disliked · Some staffs at the reception and housekeeping who could not converse in simple English. To be precise, one is a 'darker' Asian ethnic male and another male Japanese, who kept conversing Japanese to non-Japanese guests at the Reception. The mini fridge in the room is not cold enough. I have read a few reviews regarding this matter, hence, I was prepared and not taken aback when the same matter happened to me.

My most disappointing hotel stay in Japan This was my first time staying at a hotel in Japan that left me feeling extremely disappointed. I had clearly booked and paid in advance for a non-smoking room, which was more expensive, but I was willing to pay extra for comfort and health reasons. However, upon check-in, I was assigned a smoking room by a foreign front desk staff member who seemed inexperienced and unprofessional. The entire floor I was placed on was designated for smoking, and the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke — it felt unpleasant and unclean in a way I’ve never experienced before. I immediately went back to the front desk to request a room change. The same staff member insisted that “all rooms smell the same” and that they couldn’t change my room. I returned to my room, trying to cope, but eventually the smell became unbearable. Later, I spoke to another foreign staff member, who was more helpful and agreed to change my room. Interestingly, he also told me that all rooms smell the same, but the new room I received was completely different — fresh, clean, and without any smell of cigarettes. What upset me the most was: 1. The misinformation and poor service from the first staff member 2. Not receiving the non-smoking room I had clearly booked and paid more for in advance 3. The dishonesty — claiming all rooms smelled the same, when that was clearly untrue Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this hotel to others. It does not live up to its price or promises.

Overall: this was a great hotel! Staff was kind, check in and check out was super easy, cleanliness was amazing, and the price was very reasonable (we paid $82 USD per night). I left details about some super random things that were really not big issues but felt like it might be helpful to include. Would I book again? Yes, if I couldn’t find a slightly bigger room without increase the price per night because for the location the price was great. Location: super great location, it was about 10 - 15 minutes walking distance from many of the things we were interested in in Osaka such as the famous Dotonbori street and Namba area but was also far enough away that we didn’t have to worry about it being super crowded around the hotel. There was also a smaller subway station stop right around the corner of the hotel which made it easier to get to bigger connection stations such as Osaka Station if we wanted to go somewhere farther. For example, we took a day trip to Nara and it took ~8 min to get from the smaller subway station to transfer to Osaka Station before we headed to Nara from Osaka Station. Cleanliness: Super clean no issues here. We got a non-smoking room and it was nice because our floor did not smell like smoke (some hotels we stayed in even though we got a non-smoking room, the hallway would smell like cigarette smoke). Breakfast: we opted out of hotel breakfast Room Size: Japan hotel room sizes are small compared to US and this one was no exception. We got a double room which when we booked said it was 1 double bed but turned out to be 2 twin beds pushed together with full sized fitted sheets and full size comforter (we could feel the gap in the middle of the bed where the 2 twin beds met). Really was not the biggest inconvenience. Other than that though, there’s a small nightstand and then the bathroom and that’s pretty much it for space. I bought a medium sized luggage bag (60x40x25 cm) and couldn’t open it on the floor space so we ended up just opening it on our bed and packing that way the day before we left. Laundry: there was coin laundry for ~200 yen per wash in the hotel but detergent was not provided (some hotels in Japan did provide detergent which was nice). There was a 7/11 literally across the street though and we easily found a box of 5 small packets of detergent that was perfect for us to use then throughout our trip! Also, there were only 2 washers and 2 dryers but the hotel had like 10+ floors if I remember correctly so when we went to try to do laundry in the evenings they were always in use. During random hours in the middle of the day one was generally empty. Internet: not the fastest when watching YouTube videos BUT worked great when looking up basic info such as places to go and booking attractions/tickets for things. Temperature: okay this is a random category I know but either I we didn’t figure out how to properly use the room thermostat (which is totally plausible) or it just didn’t work. Google Translate did say that one of the notices stated that the room was part of “Central Heating” but then why have a thermostat/thermometer control panel in the room? Anyway, we didn’t have this problem in any of our other hotels, but for some reason whenever we tried to adjust the thermostat we felt like nothing changed and it was just constantly heating our room to the point where it felt a little hot. We ended up giving up trying to adjust the thermostat and would just turn it off entirely and prop the window open then close the window when it got cold and that worked great. (We were there March 10 - 14 so average temperature was about 60 degrees...

Handtücher waren in ausreichender Zahl vorhanden.

The hotel is decent—not terrible, but not great either. The room is small; once you open two suitcases, there’s barely any space left. The air conditioning doesn’t cool the room even if you turn it all the way down. One night, the hotel cut off the air conditioning in the middle of the night without any notice or explanation. I assume it was because the weather was cool, but it didn’t help—it was still very hot.

The front desk staff were okay, but there were too few of them.

**A warning for women: try not to return to the hotel too late at night. The hotel is located in an area where there are lots of people around at night, including nightlife venues and late-night diners. One night, I encountered some men who acted very inappropriately toward me. Right in front of the hotel, even though there was a no-smoking sign, they stood there smoking under the sign.
