What a change from the old KOMTAR complex with the Parkson Ria store, 15-20 years ago... The refreshed version with the “JBCC” at its name is now a classy, upmarket mall with tenants of KL and SG standard... Big retail names like Marks & Spencer (first one in JB), Bath & Body Works, Sephora, Tumi, Victoria’s Secret, Royal Selangor, Skechers, Daiso, and FOS will definitely draw the well-heeled shopper here, while foodies can check out the myriad of tasty outlets from Tony Roma’s, KFC, CBTL, O’Brien’s Sandwiches, Haagen Dazs, and Famous Amos. Let’s not forget the Activity Park centered on the insanely popular Angry Birds mobile game, for the kids to play while the adults go for shopping therapy! And best of all is the location of JBCC - it’s smack in the center of JB Downtown and easily accessible not just from the CIQ Complex and JB Sentral but even the many hotels surrounding the place (including where I stayed during this trip, which is the excellent Suasana Suites)!

Komtar mall is quiet mall beside city square near JB CIQ mall which is often overlooked by tourists. But actually there’s a lot of shopping and some dining in that mall. Less crowded than City Square Mall. There’s marks & Spencer’s, Watsons, guardian, kiehl’s, bath & body works, some clothing shops , shoe shops etc, macdonald’s, Tony Roma, 4 fingers chicken, hotpot, some Japanese restaurant, cookies etc. there’s always some event discount sales in the atrium which has pretty good promotions. the downside is - no grocery shop (the one on the top floor is like closing / moving out, no business / lack of goods) - if they can get a good grocery supermarket, I think it will attract more shoppers. Worst thing actually is the poor condition of the toilets. The ceiling was leaking!!? And the floor tiles popping up?! And out of 5-6 cubicles only 1 was functioning so everyone had to line up. After that time in the second level toilet, we got afraid of them. They should really upgrade the toilets to attract more customers. It looks like a “high end” mall as compared to city square. But the toilets maintenance is worse than city square.

A Collector's Paradise at Komtar JBCC: JB Collector's Market This vibrant market, held from May 31st to June 2nd, 2024, transformed the mall into a haven for enthusiasts of all kinds. Walking through the aisles feels like a treasure hunt, with each booth offering a unique glimpse into different worlds. One of the highlights of the market is the abundance of nostalgic items that transport you back in time. From childhood toys that evoke fond memories to vintage clothing that exudes retro charm, the market is a haven for those who appreciate the stories and craftsmanship of the past. Kudos to organisers and stakes for bringing back memories

Nice modern mall located next to City Square JBCC. Not as many shops but sufficient outlets for apparel, branded sports gear, footwear, home appliances and of course restaurants and food outlets. Adidas, New Balance etc all located here plus a variety of international dining- Arashi, Sushi Z, Tony Romas, Dragon i, 4 Fingers and many more. There’s Coffee Bean on the ground floor and several more smaller cafes in the mall itself. Metro Jaya also available here plus Caring Pharmaceuticals. Bratpack has an outlet if interested in various types of bags, packs n accessories. Atmosphere is pleasant, nice, neat and clean smelling despite quite a few food outlets. Worth a visit indeed.

Relatively new mall, and a lot quieter than the JBCC. Unfortunately you will easily find many floor were patched and broken. Be careful of your steps, especially if you bring toddler around. Hope they will fix that soon. The one of main highlight there was the Angry Bird arena, suitable for children and toddler. They also provide several food chains, and grocery store. Suitable for you who stay in Hotel or AirBNB apartment around as they were really easy to reach. Just small walk (less than 5 minute) from famous Amari hotel and Suasana Apartment. I also saw Singaporeans doing grocer there before going back to Singapore, probably because of slightly lower price.

Komtar JBCC Mall offers a dynamic shopping and lifestyle experience. The mall’s layout is user-friendly, featuring ample natural light and comfortable spaces that enhance the shopping experience. With additional amenities such as a cinema, a children's play area, and frequent events, Komtar JBCC stands out as a lively and convenient destination for both residents and visitors. As I had reached johor early, and had to wait till 3pm for hotel chekcin, I went into this mall where Mcd is located at basement level. There are seats where you can rest until the mall opens. Location is just adjacent to the city square mall and opposite to the johor bahru ciq complex.
